LOCATION OF POSITION: Hybrid/work from home in California (frequent in-person Programmatic obligations in within California). Additionally, this position will require less frequent travel throughout the United States, approx. 2-4 times per year. SALARY: $85,000 - 90,000 (full-time salaried position with a competitive benefits package)
ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW
An increasing number of Americans – most of whom are women and people of color – are employed in service sector jobs that are marked by low wages, no health care, job insecurity, and lack of training and career advancement opportunities. The SEIU Education & Support Fund tackles these issues by designing and facilitating worker-centered, relationship-based, and accessible education, training and workforce development programs. We serve as a strategic partner to the Service Employees International Union (SEIU), and collaborate with other unions, nonprofit organizations, government agencies, and employers to help workers access good jobs and spark positive social change. PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Child Care Providers United Training Fund (CCPU-TF) is a coalition of organizations united by a shared vision for lifting up the leadership of family child care providers in California, the majority of whom are women of color and immigrants. Family child care providers, who run child care businesses out of their homes, represent an essential workforce in California and are drivers of economic regeneration and community health. Our providers work with the state to provide subsidized care services for our most underserved families and have a unique role in leveling the playing field, ensuring that all children, regardless of income, have access to quality care and education. Our early childhood educators create the foundation for well-being and academic success for children across the state, positively shaping our next generation.
All staff members are employees of SEIU Education & Support Fund (ESF). Our Child Care Providers United Training Fund team members are remotely dispersed across the state of California.
POSITION SUMMARY
The Assistant Director of Training and Professional Development Programs in California will oversee ESF’s CA Child Care training fund professional development programming. They will ensure the effective implementation of all components of the CCPU-TF’s annual training program plan, which includes: Educator-Led Communities of Care (ELCC), webinars, in-person trainings, All Our Kin and peer mentorship. Additionally, they will track and communicate the impact of these programs regularly to appropriate stakeholders and ensure that daily operations run smoothly in accordance with ESF policies and procedures. This role reports to the CA Director of Training and Professional Development Programs, and will have four direct reports including the ELCC manager, two training and professional development managers and the peer mentorship manager.
KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Programmatic Leadership:

Support the California Director of Training and Professional Development Programs in developing an annual program plan and budget for CCPU-TF programs that is aligned with ESF’s strategic plan and available resources and is responsive to the unique needs of the CCPU-TF bargaining unit
- Lead strategic planning and project management related to ensuring CCPU-TF program team’s calendar is aligned with annual program plan and mapped out every six months
- Support on the development of leadership pathways across program teams that empower peer employees, including train- the- trainers, in conjunction Director of Training and program managers
- Ensure consistency, equity and transparency across CCPU-TF selection processes for peer employment and intensive training programs
- Evaluate impact based CCPU-TF’s equity goals and identify strategies needed to engage underrepresented communities in leadership and programmatic opportunities
Staff Management:

Oversee and support four direct reports - clearing roadblocks, and supporting them in developing work plans that align with ESF’s mission/ strategic plan, CCPU-TF’s annual program plan, relevant NEETC initiatives, and their own professional development goals
- Work with the directors of Training, Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning departments to identify and facilitate professional development needed for staff and peer employees to run multi-lingual, popular education programs
- Identify needs of the staff and bring those to Director of Training and other internal stakeholders as needed, to create and maintain a supportive workplace environment
Collaboration and Communication:

Ensure effective internal communication by adhering to ESF’s program and operational reporting/monitoring policies
- Coordinate with Director of Training and staff from other internal departments to develop and implement values-aligned and efficient workflows for the program team and ensure that program staff have the needed tools, templates, technology and technical assistance to carry out their annual plans
- Collaborate with CCPU-TF program staff, Director of Training, as well as ESF’s evaluation and operations teams to develop and implement program data and reporting systems that meet funder requirements, capture program impact, and foster learning and continuous improvement across the CCPU-TF programs.
- Partner with the Director of Training and ESF’s financial team to ensure accurate forecasting and tracking of all CCPU-TF program team funding sources.

- Experience in serving ESL populations and workers in isolated professions and those who have traditionally been excluded from pathways to advancement
- Is able to flex hours to support staff across multiple time zones as needed (generally with notice).
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS

5+ years of experience in a programmatic leadership role.
- 3+ years of demonstrated experience working with internal and external stakeholders.
- 2+ years of experience supervising staff.
- 1+ years of experience developing and monitoring program-level budgets.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing new education programs and initiatives.
- Experience working with diverse communities, including low-income women of color.
- Strong understanding of social and economic justice issues, with knowledge of the union landscape.
- Excellent communication skills, both internally and externally, with the ability to represent the organization effectively and convey insights and recommendations to internal teams.
- Strong analytical skills, with the ability to interpret program data and feedback into actionable insights

- Advanced education or experience in a relevant fields
- Fluent in English and Spanish
