Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Communications & Media (70% of capacity)
- Collaborate with the Communications Director, Director of Strategy and Special Projects, and Research Director to write and publish content for websites, e-newsletters, and social media platforms, to elevate the organization’s efforts, reinforce partnerships with allies and influencers, and raise key policy issues of strategic importance.
- Conduct background research for social media and website content.
- Edit content for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style.
- Develop, manage, and maintain the organization’s social media calendar.
- Update and monitor the organization’s websites and social media channels.
- Collaborate with staff to ensure relevant information is shared on the organization’s brand, initiatives, and coalitions.
- Support rapid response efforts in traditional communications and social media.
- Capture analytics and metrics on website traffic, social media, and media coverage of the organization’s brand and initiatives to gain insights and best practices, and apply course corrections that can be implemented to increase engagement.
- Lead the organizing and archiving of various media assets, including photos, videos, media coverage, written works, etc.
- Research media outlets and reporters for potential story pitches.
- Assist with media projects that amplify diverse voices and drive societal change for the common good.
- Maintain media contact records in Meltwater.
Projects and Policy Team Support (30% of capacity)
- Aid in preparing, editing, and formatting various documents related to policy initiatives and programs, including memos, letters, presentation decks, meeting agendas, event programs, conference materials, collateral, and relationship maps, etc.
- Assist in managing relationships and tracking progress on legislative and community initiatives.
- Provide logistical and administrative support for policy advocacy and political engagement efforts.
- Support virtual and in-person community and special events, as assigned.
- Serve as a liaison for special project partners and stakeholders.
Education/Experience:
- Minimum five years of experience in digital communications support for executive leadership, brand management, or issue advocacy.
- Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, Public Affairs, English, or related field preferred.
- Proficiency in website content management and messaging systems (e.g., Square Space, WordPress) and social media tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Instagram, Meltwater).
- Familiarity with graphic design tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Cloud).
- Experience in nonprofit, public policy, government, philanthropy, or political organizations is a plus.
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to communicate complex issues to diverse audiences.
- Project management and organizational skills are essential.
- Background in policy, political, or community work advocating for progressive public policy related to social, economic, or racial justice is advantageous.
- Self-motivated, proactive, and a strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate diplomatically and professionally with a wide variety of constituencies.
- A good sense of humor is required.
