The Gas Control Operations Specialist will focus in one of several areas of expertise to support Transmission and Distribution Gas Control, including: regulatory compliance, standards and work procedures, technical support for operators, quality control and assurance, human performance error analysis & investigation, training, projects, audits, and activities that ensure improved safety, reliability and efficiency of gas control operations. In addition to any specialized support focus, the incumbent develops, designs, and maintains standards, work procedures, bulletins, manuals, job aids and tailboards regarding gas control operations standards and work procedures. Incumbents may also be assigned to teams responsible for technical documentation, training development and delivery, QA and QC, human performance reporting and initiatives, work procedure error investigations support and implementation of technology changes and emergency response activities. This position contributes toward Gas Safety Excellence goals by improving safety, reliability and affordability for one or more asset families and one or more life cycles.
Writes work procedures, technical documents, bulletins, manuals, and tailboards, including edits to existing and creation of new documents.
May be assigned to a specific regional area as the contact on all technical document requirements. As part of a team, determines what procedure documents need to be edited. Creates multiple project assignments and technical documents per departmental requirements.
Provides technical support for assigned region/area. Consults with senior peers on the more complicated issues.
Participates on small to medium scope assignments containing complex technical procedures. May assist more senior peers on larger or more complex projects.
Delivers Instructor Led Training Sessions
Performs industry benchmarking for department requirements and gives feedback to team members, and leaders. Analyzes industry best practices and draw conclusions from analysis.
Performs process mapping techniques and procedures to accommodate technical document requirements and departmental needs.
Builds relationships and coordinates with departments such as: Gas Control, Engineering, Planning, Gas Emergency Response, Gas Control Strategy and Support, Codes and Standards to determine if new standards, procedures need to be reflected in work procedure bulletins and tailboards.
Attends stakeholder meetings within assigned line of business to ensure work standards and procedures are the highest quality possible.
High School diploma or equivalent
3 or more years of relevant operations experience
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree
1-year gas utility operations experience
Advanced writing and technical grammar skills
General knowledge of gas control operations standards and work procedures
Working knowledge of Gas SCADA
Good communication skills with diverse audiences.
