PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Marketing and Communication Specialist will be a key member of our Marketing and Communications team, responsible for developing and implementing comprehensive marketing and communication strategies to increase awareness, engagement, and support for Boys & Girls Clubs of the Austin Area (BGCAA). This role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record of driving successful marketing and communication campaigns and building strong relationships with stakeholders. The ideal candidate will be passionate about our mission and have a deep understanding of nonprofit marketing and communication principles.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
Marketing and Communication Campaigns
- Support in the development and execution of comprehensive, integrated marketing and communication plans to promote BGCAA’s mission, programs, and impact across various channels.
- Oversee the creation, production, and curation of high-quality marketing collateral across digital, print, and video platforms, including content for newsletters, social media, and the website.
- Collaborate with internal teams to align marketing efforts with program initiatives and events.
- Coordinate advertising efforts, including print, digital, and paid social media strategies.
- Monitor and analyze marketing metrics to measure effectiveness, optimize content, and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
- Develop and curate content for internal and external newsletters, and other marketing materials to share organizational updates and success stories.
- Maintain the website and social media pages, ensuring campaigns and content align with organizational goals and are optimized through ongoing performance tracking.
Media Relations
- Support coordinating press outreach, media releases, and responding to media inquiries.
Brand Management
- Manage the organization’s brand identity and ensure consistency in messaging, tone, and visual identity across all communication channels.
Event Support
- Lead marketing efforts for special events, including fundraising galas, community outreach, and Club member activities
- Represent BGCAA at public forums, events, and conferences to build community partnerships and promote the mission.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Control marketing and public relations expenditures against budget. Manage vendors and consultants to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery of products and services.
- Contribute to attaining financial support by increasing membership and building the Club’s support base through marketing and public relations campaigns.
- Support in implementing and maintaining procedures and formats for marketing and public relations materials and activities.
- Stay informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in marketing and communication, and identify opportunities for innovation and growth.
- Continuously develops knowledge of best practices to market Club programs, services, and activities within the community.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in marketing, journalism, or communication roles
- An ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
- Storytelling: passion for crafting a compelling story that drives people to action
- Self-Starter: eagerness to roll up your sleeves, willing to immerse yourself in the organization
- Strong project management skills and attention to detail
- Demonstrates dependability, accountability, and cooperation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex ideas and concepts clearly and persuasively.
- Strategic thinker who can develop and implement innovative marketing campaigns that resonate with target audiences.
- Knowledge of SEO, SEM, and Google Analytics.
- Proficiency in digital marketing tools and platforms, including email marketing software, social media management tools, and web analytics.
- Passion for social causes and a commitment to making a positive impact through your work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Nonprofit and/or agency experience preferred
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful marketing and communication strategies in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization.
- Graphic and website experience (Adobe Suite, InDesign, Photoshop, WordPress, PowerPoint)
- Some video production experience
- Experience working well cross-functionally with teams
- Excellent planning and organizational skills with the demonstrated ability to effectively lead and motivate people to achieve results
- Demonstrated experience in brand management, including developing brand guidelines, messaging frameworks, and visual identity systems.
- A data-driven leader with a track record of driving a digital strategy
