Friendship Place is nonprofit organization, serving the Washington, DC region, empowering individuals and families experiencing or at risk of homelessness to rebuild their lives with the involvement of the community. Friendship Place offers the most effective model for addressing homelessness, with innovative, customized programs that have positive, demonstrable results and a lasting impact on the community and beyond. Our programs are person-centricand individualized to meet the needs and goals of individuals, families, youth/young adults and Veterans experiencing homelessness. We provide outreach, hospitality, health care, case management, housing, job placement services, and advocacy. We have established a national presence and are known for sharing best practices in the field.
The Director role oversees the LaCasa permanent supporting housing program for men. La Casa serves 40 previously chronically homeless, vulnerable, single men using a single site Housing First Model. The Director ensures the contract requirements are met, and that the service delivery is effective, client-driven and quality-oriented. The Director will ensure adherence to all program contracts and policies, while providing quality assurance in accordance with HSRA standards. The role is responsible for applying program rules in accordance with regulations as it relates to programmatic needs. The Director will also engage in community and system level meetings as needed. Community relations, overseeing the clinical needs of the program, and stakeholder relations is a crucial part of the role. The chosen candidate will possess a strong ability to remain calm during crisis situations, while demonstrating effective problem solving and a high level communication skills.
General Operations 35%
- Ensure program operations are within regulations established by the Federal Government and the District of Columbia that govern the service delivery to persons experiencing homelessness (HSRA).
- Communicates directly with DHS program monitor regarding clinical updates, unusual incident reports, major building and security issues, etc.
- Attends monthly DHS provider meetings, including monthly one to one meetings with program monitor through DHS.
- Communicates with Department of General Services (DGS) contractors as needed for building and maintenance issues, including assurance that camera security footage is operating, as well as the key fob system for the building. Responsible for reporting any issues related to these building security features directly to DGS, TCP, and DHS program monitor.
- Facilitates quarterly all staff meetings along with Assistant Director
Program Development 5%
- Ensures continuous program development in keeping with new trends in the field.
- Provides direct supervision to Assistant Director, case managers and indirect supervision of up to 16 staff.
- Ensures administrative tasks are completed in accordance with contract requirements, i.e. submission of building and maintenance work orders in the QuickBase/Housing the Homeless (OCTO/HTH) database system, unit turnovers, and all other building related issues.
- Manages the submission of monthly dashboards and quarterly goals and objectives
- Provides clinical supervision weekly and quality assurance
- Supervises Masters of Social Work intern(s) including meeting with the intern weekly to discuss case load, ensuring all required paperwork is completed. Locating possible volunteers, providing the introduction to the program, coordinating dates and times of services.
- Participates in multidisciplinary meetings and regular supervision
- Participates on Board Committees with the approval of the President and Board
- Attends all required yearly TCP trainings
Contract and Grants Management, Reporting 10%
- Oversees contract requirements for the Division, ensuring the team meets goals in accordance with the Human Care Agreement through Department of Human Services (DHS), and the Operations contract through The Community Partnership for the Prevention of Homelessness (TCP).
- Manages and develop programs policy and procedure as it relates to program rules and staff protocol, including overseeing data collection, evaluation, and reporting within various systems, including the OCTO/HTH and HMIS database system.
Resident and Community Relations
- Acts as a liaison with community stakeholders
- Collaborates with external agencies towards ending homelessness
- Advocates for homeless individuals and families
- Performs all other duties as assigned
Education and Qualifications:
- Masters Degree in Human Services and an LICSW or LPC or a Bachelors of Nursing and 5 or more total years of human service experience
- 3+ years experience in a highly or moderately regulated setting such as a medical facility, single site PSH, group home, mental health or nursing home facility
- 3 + years of experience providing counseling and case management
- 2+ years experience supervising staff
- Ability to build relationships with community organizations and government agencies.
- Experience working with homeless individuals and families
- Understanding of adult rehabilitation values and principles.
- Must possess the ability to build relationships with community organizations and government agencies.
- Understanding of Housing First Model and Permanent Supportive Housing
- Understanding and/or experience working with chronically homeless individuals and families
- Strong written and verbal skills.
- Ability to work in a culturally diverse environment.
- Ability to work well under pressure and as a team player.
