The Aviation Commercial Engines’ Operational Controller holds a leadership role in ensuring that timely, high quality financial information is prepared by Global Operations for use by our Aviation business partners. This role is closely tied to key finance and operational stakeholders in the Aviation business and allows the candidate an opportunity to expand business knowledge, as well as leadership and technical skills. This role is also accountable to the CEO technical controller.
Primary Record to Report (R2R) operational controller leader for Aviation’s Commercial Engines’ (“CEO”) business
Lead general ledger accounting, closing & reporting processes; including MARS edit clearing, suspense resolution, trial balance reviews and close calendar development
Understand and interpret applicable Enterprise Standards, SOPs and process maps to deliver globally competitive accounting services.
Lead quarterly Balance Sheet reviews, including pre-close and deep dives
Monitor and drive completion of CEO and MSO’s account reconciliations
Lead and manage team of approximately 10 accounting professionals
Ensure alignment of operational accounting to technical accounting conclusions as determined by CEO technical controllership
Identify and facilitate simplification opportunities to improve the efficiency of closing processes, eliminate manual effort and maximize automation of enterprise standard processes such as Cash, Compensation & Benefits, Intercompany and Supply Chain accounting
Participation in and support of migration activities
Ad hoc research and projects to support business needs, including timely resolution of issues
Partnering with contacts in other Global Ops functions such as Buy to Pay (B2P), Invoice to Cash (I2C), Corporate Treasury, as well as business finance teams in various countries
Partnering with Aviation technical controllership and finance contacts, including regular rhythms with divisional CFOs
Support of other corporate accounting and auditing processes, including KPMG, Corporate Audit Staff (CAS), statutory, etc.
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college (or a high school graduate/GED or equivalent with at least 8 years of relevant work experience)
Minimum 5 years professional work experience in Accounting Operations.
CPA and/or public accounting experience
Shared service experience
Effective interpersonal skills and highly professional style when dealing with business clients, including both oral and written communication
Basic commercial awareness
Proven analytical skills
Detail-oriented and strong time management skills
Ability to anticipate, communicate, report and resolve challenges
Flexible approach with a strong team spirit
Comfortable delivering against quantitative and qualitative performance metrics
Compliance and controllership mindset
Understanding of how operational processes link to the financial statement

Experience with Microsoft Office products, Oracle accounting/ERP systems
