Job Summary: Performs tasks related to the control, change and release of engineering documents on a major program and/or product line. Maintains engineering release and change records. Maintains configuration management related computer records. Provides configuration data for manufacturing purposes. This position typically works under general supervision and direction. Incumbents of this position will regularly exercise discretionary and substantial decision-making authority.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs duties related to engineering documentation control, change, and release functions within the Configuration Management Group by reviewing and processing all types of engineering documents for release, releasing drawings, and verifying drawing authorizations in accordance with configuration management procedures and applicable program plan.
Maintains engineering documents, drawings and parts data in computer database, creates bills of material, and stores computer generated engineering documentation and drawings in a central database (file server).
Creates and revises Engineering Release Authorizations.
Requests and distributes manufacturing reports regarding configuration structure/status.
Provides estimates for completion for assigned programs.
Responsible for co-chairing the Configuration Board, creating and distributing agendas and minutes.
Provides configuration management support regarding physical configuration audit activities.
Performs engineering drawing review for completeness and accuracy with respect to the incorporation of drawing change requests data.
Establishes and maintains software baseline definition, labeling, identification and release.
Documents the version description and other configuration management data as needed.
Analyzes and maintains the contents (hard copy and/or electronic copy) of the configuration management library, notifying appropriate personnel of updates.
Identifies, verifies for completeness, and controls commercial off-the-shelf software.
Assesses the various versions/releases of designated software through inspection and research.
Receives products from authorized sources. Verifies for completeness and places under control software, documentation and other items. Updates database and tracks location of configuration items.
Generates status accounting reports as required.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Four year college degree, or equivalent, in business administration or related field, plus two years of related experience. Must have a working knowledge of blueprint reading. Must have a general knowledge of engineering drawings and parts lists. Must be able to understand configuration management concepts, maintenance of documentation and file maintenance. Must know how to use computer applications such as word processing and spreadsheets. General knowledge of military, commercial and international configuration management standards is beneficial. Ability to perform tasks under work deadlines. Ability to effectively interact with technical employees, management, and customers. Must have a very high degree of attention to detail and willingness to maintain computer databases for an extended period of time. Must be capable of working at a computer terminal (workstation) for extended periods. Ability to follow written and verbal directions. Must communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form.
