This is a legal secretary/administrative assistant position with your own office and work to manage. You'll compose letters and use software to compose drafts of documents/pleadings. The job requires near flawless English reading, writing, speaking and composition skills. Spelling, grammar and punctuation count. You will be front line and work with clients. You must be able to screen calls while remaining pleasant. You will speak with lawyers and their staff; court personnel and even the occasional judge. You must exhibit computer and office equipment skills, read and diary incoming mail, assist with work flow and "to-do" lists. You will travel occasionally to court, meetings, and, if you are comfortable, to some clients' homes. The job requires maturity and responsibility. No one with visible tattoos need apply, and, if hired, appearing for work with a visible tattoo is a voluntary resignation. Prior bankruptcy experience is a strong plus, as is a genuine interest in the law.
We offer a matching IRA and, so long as not abused, the ability to bend your work schedule to reasonably meld with personal needs. While we anticipate this as a full time position, we are willing to consider alternatives. Since this is a one-man one-secretary office, we work together to keep the office tidy and well supplied. We supply coffee, tea and occasional snacks.
10 Station Place is the heart of downtown Metuchen with lit, on-site parking, Northeast Corridor train access to New York, and a host of local businesses and restaurants. The building is small, and you may develop friendships with others. It's a nice place to work. My resume speaks volumes about how pleasant it is to work here: one secretary stayed 30 years, and the next, 7 or 8, before moving out of state. Both call and visit. The IRA is no small item. We pay weekly, and it adds up. The right person finds the responsibility and challenge of a small office to be the best part of working here.
