We hope this technology career opportunity establishes that connection for you. In our Payment Services Technology area, we have a position open leading our Capacity and Performance Management team. The Capacity and Performance manager will lead a small, focused team dedicated to ensuring the highest levels of performance and availability for Discover’s Enterprise Payments Platform and other key systems. Your team will support application operations teams responsible for availability, security, stability, resiliency and overall performance of our applications end to end for our Payment Services platforms.
The Capacity and Performance manager and team interoperate with our application operations and Business Technology business partners to maintain a very high level of performance.
Capacity and Performance organizational direct and functional accountabilities include the following:
Business Application Volume Forecasting
Platform Performance Reports and Reviews with Application and Business teams
NFT Benchmark Test Performance Statistics and Reporting
Capacity Planning Models
Performance Documentation Ownership
Application Performance Monitoring Tool Management (AppDynamics)
Application Log Dashboards and Reporting (Kibana, Splunk)
Cloud Space Management (PCF)
Enterprise Payments Platform Application Subject Matter Expert
Infrastructure Knowledge (Campus, FW, OS, SAN, DB, Load balancers, Iaas, Paas).
Compliance (Audits, controls and compliance)
Business, Budget Planning Input
Platform Product Road-Map Knowledge
Forecasts network volumes.
Directs team in the development of capacity models.
Develops performance and capacity reporting for applications.
Develops benchmarking capabilities and reports for production capacity.
Develops capacity and performance management tools.
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or related field
6+ years of experience in Application or Technology Performance Analysis (hardware, software, applications, and Network), or related field In lieu of a degree, 8+ years of experience in Application or Technology Performance Analysis (hardware, software, applications, and Network), or related field
Bonus Points If You Have:
8+ years’ experience in technology (either systems/architecture or infrastructure services/support)
Solid communications skills to work with our business users and internal BT support teams
Experience developing and documenting solutions, processes and issues (Word, PowerPoint, Visio, Excel) and be able to present and facilitate technical discussions
Broad technical and analytical skills around application development and support
Develop ongoing capacity and performance program objectives
Understand mission critical high performing platform/applications
Familiar with cloud-based IaaS and PaaS solutions (AWS, Cloud Foundry)
Strong communication skills
Strength in adapting to a highly dynamic environment of change
Directs or manages leadership to his/her professional staff.
Coaches – Empowers a highly skilled staff to broaden skill sets and accountabilities to support Discover critical applications.
Empowers and motivates. Recognizes when there are obstacles preventing others from achieving their goals and can readily intervene and find resourceful ways to support, remove and improve results. Foster leadership to the application integration team which builds solid relationships to our business partners

Amount of Supervision
Receives guidance from the Director when required with department issues. Limited supervision is required on objectives, plans and overall execution. Exercises considerable latitude in approach to meeting objectives.
Excellent technology and process skills coupled with strong leadership and analytical skills and leadership. Owns end to end accountability of the application which can be complex at times.
Very wide latitude and leadership for decision making. Gathers information, consults those who need to be involved, and puts decisions into action. Coaches and mentors employees to their best ability in decision making by thinking through scenarios and criteria before taking action. Strong communicator in decision making to stakeholders both internal to the team and external partners and or Vendors. Develops solutions to problems of unusual complexity which require a high degree of ingenuity, creativity, and innovativeness across the teams.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills are critical to this position. Needs to be very comfortable in people settings, presentations and promoting success as a team player manager.
