This position coordinates stormwater education and outreach and other public relations services for the Department of Public Works.
Serves as City of Chesapeake representative for HRPDC AskHRGreen.org stormwater committee and assists in development of regional education and public awareness programs;
Provides public education material and presentations to school and community groups related to stormwater pollution;
Plans, executes Chesapeake Recycles Day events, coordinating with Parks, Recreation and Tourism;
Manages Adopt-a-Highway, Adopt-a-Garden and Sign Sweepers volunteer programs;
Manages Public Works information online through the City's website and various social media outlets;
Produces and coordinates printing of brochures and advertisements for public hearings, public education, and Public Works services;
Coordinates logistics for public hearings and information meetings and Public Works displays at local and regional events;
Participates in departmental emergency response activities, as assigned, including potential assignments outside normal working hours;
Attends internal/external meetings as assigned, representing the department and providing advice to various individuals and/or groups on communications, message development, and related topics.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This position requires excellent customer service skills.
Requires a bachelor's degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience in public communications or a closely related field.
In addition to satisfying the vocational/education standards, this class requires a minimum of two years of related, full-time equivalent experience.
SPECIAL CERTIFICATIONS AND LICENSES:
Requires a valid driver's license and a driving record that is in compliance with City Driving Standards.
