Summary
As a support member of the Lancaster Veterans Memorial Library circulation team, provides circulation assistants to all patrons.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Shelves and searches for materials as assigned.
Performs all duties relating to Interlibrary Loan (ILL) services.
Provides aide to Children’s Services by supporting a variety of weekly children’s programs, including interactive educational, cultural, or entertainment performances, reading, storytelling, and music.
Performs as a substitute for the Library Assistant for Children’s Services during weekday story hours, and performs as the primary leader for Saturday and Monday evening story times.
Uses a variety of program methods, including finger play and storyboard play, crafts, educational arts, puppets, dance, and other educational or cultural entertainment.
Assistant performs clerical, administrative, and other duties as assigned.
Works under the supervision of the Library Director, and requires extensive initiative to perform before children to develop creative thinking, listening skills and language development to enhance early childhood reading readiness.
Supports marketing of programs, for example: school visits, graphic designs, posters, newsletters, invitations, scrapbooks, bulletin board displays, crafts, photography, and web design.
Education and/or Experience
Must have high school diploma or equivalent. Work experience in a library preferred, with experience in circulation, library automation, and general library duties. Work experience in using computer applications, including the Internet, library automation system, and understanding of the Dewey decimal system; cash register; office machines and more.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Must be at least 18 years of age and valid driver’s license with good driving history.
