Drive Western Digital's activities at key storage interface standards setting organizations in order to grow WD's business, further its technology strategies, and improve its market leadership. Includes working extensively with internal business groups and engineering teams to define standards initiatives in sync with, and in furtherance of, WD goals, as well as representing WD in the standards committees, and as regards standards-related issues with strategic partners and customers. This is a challenging position spanning a broad range of technical disciplines and having sufficient depth in each, as well as strong relationship and program management skills.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Typical activities include:
Attend face to face meetings and conference calls representing WDC in industry standards committees (e.g., NVMe, T10, T13, SATA-IO, JEDEC)
Provide briefings for WDC teams on new and evolving standards
Work with WDC teams (e.g., SoC, HW, Validation, Planning) to drive the development of WDC tactics and strategies in standards bodies
Work with WDC stakeholders and industry partners to write standards proposals

QUALIFICATIONS:Education & Experience:
BS Degree in Engineering or related field with 7+ years of experience or
MS Degree in Engineering or related field with 6+ years of Experience or
PhD in Engineering or related field with 3+ years of experience

Areas of knowledge:
SSD architecture and design tradeoffs
NAND Flash and other non-volatile storage mediums
Storage interface protocols (SAS, SATA, NVMe/PCIe, DDR, USB, etc.)
Security (TCG, 1667, NIST)
Interaction of hardware, firmware, and operating systems

Skills Required:
Presentation – Constant communication across multiple groups; must be able to communicate downward, laterally, and upward in the company.
Program Management – Must appreciate schedules and deliverables amongst multiple teams across the company, and also as related to timing of the development of the standards in the various committees
Relationship management – Maintain and balance relationships between groups within the company, and between the company and external companies.
Parliamentary Procedure – Navigate politics and rules in standards committees
Technical writing – Write detailed technical proposals which can be integrated, verbatim, into industry standards documents
