THIS POSITION REQUIRES APPLICANTS TO BE TOBACCO AND NICOTINE FREE
The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department is a tobacco and nicotine free campus. The Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department prohibits the hiring of individuals who use tobacco or nicotine products in any form. All individuals who are offered a position with the Health Department are screened for tobacco or nicotine use as part of the post-offer health screening. Individuals whose post-offer health screening results are verified positive for tobacco or nicotine use will be disqualified from employment, their job offers will be withdrawn, and they will be disqualified from employment with the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Health Department for one (1) year from the date of the post-offer health screening.
THIS POSTING IS FOR FOUR(4) VACANCIES.
Under general supervision of the Program Managers and direct supervision of Epidemiology Manager, to provide a variety of specialized quality management, outreach and education to residents, indigent and underserved and/or high risk populations of Hamilton County. May act as coordinator or lead on assigned program specialty. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Essential Functions: (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics. Tasks may include specimen collection; case investigation, contact monitoring and/or tracing as assigned; test result notification, consultation, education and referral work with individuals and community partners regarding the implementation of COVID-19 health directives and guidelines; working on special strike teams to effectively impact disease spread in community; data collection and entry; leadership of other EPI staff regarding communications, assessment, monitoring needs as well as team planning regarding strike teams; administration of immunizations when vaccine is available. Variable work schedule including some weekend and evening hours.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of federal, state, and county laws, rules, regulations, policies, practices and procedures related to provision of Public Health Professional Nursing services.
Knowledge of professional Registered Nurse medical methods, practices and procedures.
Knowledge of community and county medical, social, and emotional services.
Knowledge of quality reviews and audit methods, practices and procedures.
Knowledge of specialty methods, practices and procedures related to area of assignment.
Knowledge of patient chart documentation, recordkeeping, case management; and specialized medical procedures related to area of assignment.
Skill utilizing specialized medical equipment utilizing proper universal health and safety precautions.
Skill managing upset and/or confrontational patients/clients or family members.
Skill reading, analyzing, and interpreting medical research, reports, tests, and information.
Skill utilizing verbal and written communication in providing presentations, counseling, educational materials, and instructions related to medical information.
Skill providing case management to indigent or underserved populations.
Skill utilizing customer service/public relations techniques when responding to inquiries and complaints.
Skill establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a registered professional nurse in TN. Current CPR Certification and a valid Driver's License. Prior work experience in both clinical service delivery and patient education preferred. Computer skills required.
Physical Requirements: Work requires long periods of standing, walking, lifting medical supplies or patients weighing up to 50 pounds, assisting patients in transfers to examination tables, performing routine lab work such as blood draws and specimen collection; extensive contact with infectious diseases, mentally ill or combative patients, home visits, case management and attention to detail. Some positions require occasional travel and on-call duties.
Additional activities may include working at outdoor testing facilities with use of full PPE as well as extensive phone interviewing work and data entry.
