The Worcester Public Library seeks a Youth Services Library Assistant in One City One Library location. This is a paraprofessional position, reporting to the Youth Services Branch Manager, in conjunction with the Branch Supervisor, and under the overall direction of the Youth Services Coordinator. This position assists with the daily operations of assigned branch libraries; coordinates and performs all circulation activities; acts as a liaison with the Main Library Circulation Department; organizes and performs the holds process and functions; assists with readers advisory and reference services; and provides exemplary customer service to patrons. Work will include evening and weekend assignments, and working at other locations.
Qualified applicants will have excellent organizational skills, and the ability to plan and prioritize work effectively to ensure completion; excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills; a high level of professionalism and commitment to their organization; and experience working with- and strong commitment to consistent excellent customer service to diverse populations in an urban community. Additionally, the successful candidate will have the ability to communicate with all staff about concepts, ideas, and requirements; to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, volunteers, vendors, and citizens using or working in the library; to provide information and guidance clearly, courteously and pleasantly to patrons; to be flexible and to easily handle varying work assignments; to learn new skills in a fast-paced, changing environment; to work independently and as part of a team; to create positive working relationships with a diverse staff; to learn and use library technologies; to maintain patron confidentiality; to reach and retrieve books at high and low shelf heights; to stand and or sit for prolonged periods of time; to perform bending, stooping, lifting, pushing, and twisting; to perform repetitive hand and arm motions for prolonged periods of time; and to move or lift up to 50 lbs.

High school diploma or equivalent
One year of community public service work, such as library, day care center, recreation program or classroom
Ability to successfully pass CORI/SORI
Reliable transportation to travel between required locations
One year of supervisory experience in a youth setting
SALARY RANGE: $16.22 - $21.50 hourly, full-time
