This position is part of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge Complex. As a Park Ranger (Visitor Services) you will be responsible for participating in the coordination, development, and implementation of the Visitor Services Plan and a variety of step down plans for the Visitor Services program. You will participate in partnership activities with community organizations and corporations.
Prepare draft plans such as Sign Plan, Interpretive Plan, Environmental Education Plan, Hunt Plan, and Fishing Plan
Prepare draft refuge site plans for facilities such as decks, platforms, trails, buildings and landscaping
Participate in the development, management, and implementation of a high quality and balanced visitor services program by recommending and implementing compatible wildlife-dependant recreation activities
Coordinate and integrate plans with State hunting and fishing agencies, school districts, and other refuge personnel
Participate in the development, coordination, and implementation of refuge or issue specific outreach and Communication
Manage and maintain visitor facilities to prevent hazards to public safety. Coordinate repairs and upgrades with maintenance staff
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.

You may qualify at the GS-09 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualification requirements:
A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is described as: 1) participating in the development visitor service program plans, including content, emphasis, and methods; 2) developing interpretive materials, such as pamphlets, exhibits, and signs; 3) acting as liaison with community to provide orientation to visitor service programs, and 4) working with others in the community or region as a lead on mutual project or goal setting. OR
B. A master's or equivalent graduate degree in an accredited or pre-accredited college or university; or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or possession of a LL.B. or J.D degree, if related. Graduate level education must be related to the occupation: natural resource management, natural sciences, earth sciences, history, archeology, anthropology, park and recreation management, law enforcement/police science, social sciences, museum sciences, business administration, public administration, behavioral sciences, sociology, or other closely related subjects pertinent to the management and protection of natural and cultural resources. OR
C. A combination of professional experience and graduate level education beyond the first year which together equals 100% of the requirements.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
