To meet our growing workload, Alta has an immediate opening for an experienced Design Project Manager in our Oakland office. This is an opportunity to join a dedicated group of bicycle and pedestrian planners, landscape architects and engineers who are leaders in the field.

We’re seeking a professional who has knowledge of, and interest in, the field of active transportation, has a solid understanding of the design process, particularly as it relates to streetscapes and urban design, and is looking for the next challenge in their career.

You are an experienced urban/landscape design professional seeking to contribute at a leadership level to a mission-based organization. You value work that has a positive impact on your community and the environment. Your passion for active living – whether through weekend hikes, commuting by bike, or mindfully experiencing the built environment – is reflected in your portfolio. You relish collaboration in a studio setting, working with multidisciplinary colleagues to form people-centered designs.

As an Associate Designer with Alta’s Oakland office, you’ll:

  • Lead projects from concept to implementation for communities of all sizes and at all scales.
  • Develop recommendations and details for innovative streetscapes, temporary tactical urbanism installations, transit access integration, green infrastructure, landscape and hardscape enhancements in the public right-of-way to improve the experience and senses of place.
  • Facilitate charrettes and community engagement efforts and manage collaborative design development processes.
  • Interface directly with representatives of public jurisdictions, other consulting firms, and stakeholders to achieve consensus, appropriate investment of team resources, and project and organizational success.
  • Mentor staff and be an integral part of the growth of Alta’s Oakland office.

Candidates should have seven+ years of proven project management experience in a consulting or public agency, strong leadership skills, a Bachelor’s degree in Landscape Architecture or related field, working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Photoshop, ARCGIS or similar, and have the ability to create, and direct the development of, photo renderings, concept sketches, construction documents or other similar materials.

Alta Planning + Design offers competitive salaries, great benefits including wellness and bike benefits, ten paid holidays per year, a generous starting PTO package, and a five-year travel award, flexible work schedules, work-life balance, advancement opportunities and welcoming – and fun – work environments for our employees.
