Medical Dosimetrist

POSITION INFORMATION: The medical dosimetrist is a member of the radiation oncology team who has knowledge of the overall characteristics and clinical relevance of radiation oncology treatment machines and equipment, is cognizant of procedures commonly used in brachytherapy and has the education and expertise necessary to generate radiation dose distributions and dose calculations in collaboration with the medical physicist and radiation oncologist.

Design a treatment plan that delivers a prescribed radiation dose and field placement technique in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription.
Consider the dose limiting structures in the design of treatment plans and document dose in accordance with the Radiation Oncologist's prescription.
Produce accurate treatment plans on a daily basis
Assist with patient simulation and localization procedures
Coordinate treatment simulations and tumor localizations on dedicated devices for radiation oncology treatment planning
Assist therapists in implementation of treatment plan (including correct use of immobilization devices, wedges, filed arrangement, and other treatment variables)
Perform calculations for the accurate delivery of the Radiation Oncologist's prescribed dose and verify their accuracy
Perform a variety of noncomputerized dosimetric functions
Consult with Radiation Oncologist regarding plan approval
Consult with physicists regarding treatment planning or physics questions
Perform the intracavity and interstitial Brachytherapy plans
Assist Gamma Knife plans and procedures
Assist the physicist in the supervision of the HDR and Gamma Knife treatment planning and delivery

Job Requirements

Education: Bachelors Degree in Medical Dosimetry or Radiation Therapy/Science

Certifications/ Licenses: Certified by the Medical Dosimetry Certification Board or be eligible to certify.

Good communication and interpersonal skills

Previous experience with Eclipse treatment planning system
