Under moderate direction, evaluates documentation, assigns codes, and abstracts health information concurrently or retrospectively to ensure that all codes assigned are supported by sufficient documentation based on official coding and reporting guidelines. May be assigned to any of the Oakwood acute care sites to perform the coding function, depending on staffing levels. Interacts with medical staff and other hospital departments to improve the quality of documentation and ensure documentation accurately reflects severity of illness and intensity of service for each patient.
Minimum Job Qualifications:
Education: Associates or Bachelor Degree (In Health Information Management preferred)
Experience: ICD-9 CM and/or CPT coding experience preferred
Licensure: RHIT or RHIA eligible/required. Must obtain RHIT or RHIA within 6 months of employment.
Skills & Abilities: Basic knowledge of human anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology. Effective oral and written communication skills. Basic computer skills and excellent ability to concentrate.
