WORKING ON THE CHICAGO DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH COVID-19 RESPONSE TEAM
The Chicago Department of Public Health (CDPH) envisions a city of thriving communities where all residents are able to live healthy lives. The disproportionate impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on Chicago neighborhoods has highlighted the need for the CDPH to address it using a health-equity based approach. As a part of the CDPH COVID Response Bureau, you will engage health agencies, communities, and partners in policies and health services that prioritize residents and communities with the greatest need.
As an essential member of the CDPH COVID-19 Response Bureau, the Director of Administration I supervises administrative activities required to support the Bureau. This position serves as human resources officer for the Bureau, overseeing and administering all personnel services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversees and supervises COVID Response Bureau’s employee selection and hiring, employment processing, training and staff development, maintenance of personnel records, performance management process, and employee relations
Evaluates staff performance
Processes and manages the preparation of payroll and the maintenance of staff timekeeping records
Performs Labor Relations functions in conjunction with CDPH’s Labor Relations Supervisor (e.g., unemployment fraud claims, acting up, dual employment)
Monitors and participates in the processing of employee grievances and disciplinary cases
Liaison with other City departments and vendors regarding personnel and/or payroll matters
Facilitates training and compliance initiatives
Provides human resources support to Bureau supervisors and managers
Assists in annual budget preparation as required
Conducts employee orientation and exit interviews as needed
Prepares reports on the section’s work activities
Education, Training, and Experience
Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Business or Public Administration or directly related field, plus three years of budgetary, human resource or office administration experience of which one year is in a supervisory role related to the responsibilities of the position, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Days: Monday - Friday
Hours: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Selection Requirement: This position requires candidates to complete an interview which will include a written exercise. The interviewed candidate(s) possessing the qualifications best suited to fulfill the responsibilities of the position, based on the oral interview and written exercise will be selected for hire.
This position is funded by a federal grant. These funds may be extended, but CDPH cannot guarantee this position will be funded past December 2022.

Residency Requirement: All employees of the City must be actual residents of the City as outlined in 2-152-050 of the City Chicago Municipal Code. Proof of residency will be required.
