Vice President, Alliance Management:
The Vice President of Alliance Management is a key strategic member of the executive team and as such is responsible for worldwide oversight of Gilead’s partnership portfolio, and to ensure Gilead is a partner of choice for future business development opportunities.

Alliances and Partnerships:
Responsible for oversight and management of strategic partnerships across Research, Development and Commercial organizations.
As a thought leader, liaise with various functional area stakeholders across the company including R&D, commercial, regulatory, finance, legal (including intellectual property) manufacturing and distribution.
Participate as a key stakeholder in internal partner meetings such as Lifecycle Team meetings, various Advisory Board meetings, Investigator meetings, etc.
Oversees the management of governance committees to ensure the right leaders are involved, set meeting agendas, ensure Gilead teams are properly aligned and prepared with meeting deliverables while minimizing escalation issues, and addressing resolution plans.
Set direction when needed with contract negotiations, re-negotiations and continue to evolve the partnerships to meet future business needs that are both repeatable and sustainable in nature. This function also includes some business development activities.
Strategic thought partner in sourcing needs and strategies across the entire Gilead portfolio
Continue to incorporate highly efficient, scalable systems and technology to enhance efficiencies in managing alliances and partnerships.
Use historical spend information and growth forecasts to identify savings, synergies, and value generating sourcing opportunities

Organizational Leadership:
Exemplify Gilead’s core values of inclusion, accountability, teamwork, excellence and integrity
Accountable for succession planning, talent needs across the Alliance Management organization to ensure solid leadership pipeline as well as staff execution.
Set strategy for on-going capacity planning with a 1-3 year projection.
Manages budget and oversees group spend for all direct and in-direct reports which includes both budget management and fiscal management.
Provide leadership to continue to foster the Gilead environment; creating and driving transparency with teamwork dynamics, providing a highly motivating and innovating culture through inclusion, while leading with excellence and integrity.
Create and oversee ongoing training as part of the teams on-going development, encourage industry conference participation and involvement within group and serve as a thought leader in the Alliance industry as a spokesperson/participant staying on the forefront of trends and transitions in the marketplace.

Skills, Knowledge and Expectations:
  • B.A. required (M.S. or Ph.D in Life Sciences, M.D,M.B.A., or J.D. preferred)
  • 15+ years’ experience in the pharmaceutical industry including expertise in direct-line executive management in alliance management and/or partnership, corporate or business development, drug development, compliance or regulatory, commercial policies and practices, new product planning, portfolio management and lifecycle management.
  • Direct experience in the marketing or R&D in HIV, Liver Disease, Inflammatory Diseases, and Oncology (or some subset) is preferred.
  • Demonstrated excellence in executive leadership towards project management and effectively managing multiple projects/priorities
  • Demonstrated ability to lead within a complex matrix organization;
  • The ideal candidate needs to have strong leadership skills, the ability to drive results and be able to influence leaders across different functions.
