Overview of Role:
Fiduciary Trust International is hiring an Investment Associate (IA) to work in our Midtown office in NYC.
The Investment Associate has a broad range of responsibilities in the “office of the CIO” and reports into the Head of Investment Business Strategy. You will be an integral part of driving key investment strategy initiatives including product development meant to drive asset growth, client acquisition and retention. This role offers the opportunity for visibility and exposure to investment thought and idea generation with members of the investment leadership team. As a member of the investment business strategy team, you will engage with all parts of the firm, often at senior levels, including portfolio management, relationship management, asset allocation, digital, marketing, compliance, and investment operations.
This dynamic role supports the investment management business of Fiduciary Trust International and has 2 primary focuses –
Supporting key investment business initiatives, product strategy, and related cross-firm projects
Supporting the CIO with market and performance related needs
Working for and supporting the Head of Investment Business Strategy, who is charged with leading the investment product strategy effort, you will focus on supporting investment business initiatives to drive client acquisition, retention, competitive positioning, and business efficiency and scalability. You may also serve as proxy when appropriate and be asked to lead and take accountability of specific projects or initiatives and drive to completion.
Being that the Head of Business Strategy is charged with running the business of investments, you will be involved in a wide range of business issues across the firm. This role provides a top-down view of an investment business and broad scope of interaction across the firm including Portfolio Management, Business Development, Sales, Asset Allocation, Marketing, Investment Operations, Digital, and Compliance, requiring the individual to be able to pivot across functions and subject matters.
The IA helps the CIO oversee ongoing market and economic research process, as well as play an active role in the development and dissemination of investment and market views. As such, you will be responsible for analyzing macroeconomic and market data, while also keeping up to date on global markets in general. The IA helps prep the CIO for committee and investment meetings, such as a formal Board of Director, Operating Committee, and other governing body meeting updates.
This IA role serves as training for junior investment professionals who are interested in developing a career in wealth management. Candidates must be independent and critical thinkers who are self-starters with the ability to work effectively within a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary investment environment. Candidates must have the ability to multi-task and prioritize projects without compromising attention to detail or follow-through. Candidates must be comfortable articulating investment policy views and analysis into actionable investment recommendations.
Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics or Mathematics (or related majors)
2-4 years of investment / asset management or financial services experience
Experience in asset allocation or asset management preferred
CFA designation (or working towards completion) preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Strong written, communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with a wide variety of senior investment leaders and personalities
Strong verbal presentation skills with the ability to articulate investment policy views and current market conditions
Strong ability to multi-task and prioritize and pivot when necessary
Ability to work collaboratively in a peer-to-peer and team environment
Ability to communicate research findings and investment views through regular meetings, reports, e-mails and one-on-one direct exchanges
Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across all investment disciplines within the organization
Ability to analyze quantitative and qualitative market relevant data from a variety of sources
Excellent attention to detail and follow-through
Proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Knowledge of FactSet, Bloomberg, Thomson Reuters Eikon, and/or Morningstar helpful
