KIPP St. Louis is a growing network of free, open-enrollment, public charter schools offering a choice to families and a college-preparatory education to children in St. Louis city . Our mission is to serve as a catalyst for education reform by establishing and supporting a world class network of public schools that develop in all of our students the knowledge, skills, character, and pursuit of excellence necessary to succeed in high quality high schools and colleges and the world beyond.

KIPP St. Louis currently serves 1,600 students and at full growth, we will serve nearly 3,000 students and hundreds alumni. Today, our St. Louis network is comprised of two middle schools, two elementary schools, and a high school:

KIPP Victory Academy, founded in 2014
KIPP Triumph Academy, founded in 2015
KIPP Wisdom Academy, founded in 2015

Position Overview

The Chief of Staff is directly responsible for ensuring strong execution and coordination of the KIPP St. Louis regional strategy through facilitating effective coordination and communication among schools, regional departments, the regional leadership team (Cabinet) and the Board of Directors. The Chief of Staff serves as the project manager for critical initiatives that extend across departments. In addition, the Chief of Staff is responsible for moving forward school or regional level strategic projects that aim to further our mission and impact. The role directly reports to and serves as a critical thought partner to the Executive Director.

What you will do…

Serve as a critical thought partner, collaborator, and organizer to the Executive Director, regional Cabinet, and Board of Directors

Manage Board of Director meetings and retreats, including working with regional Cabinet to set topics and create content
Serve as critical point of contact for the Board of Directors to share updates on regional progress
In collaboration with the external affairs department, design and draft communications to senior stakeholders
Other duties as assigned
Collaborate with Executive Director and other members of the regional Cabinet to coordinate leadership team meetings (weekly and ad hoc as needed) and develop critical regional communications

Assist in developing meeting agendas, ensuring pre-work is completed and distributed, and managing follow-up to key decisions
Assist with preparation of updates to the staff and network
Prepare coordinated briefings or materials in advance of important internal and external meetings
As relevant, may attend internal or external meetings with (or on behalf of) Executive Director
Other duties as assigned
Facilitate coordination among functional teams to enable the most high impact work

Manage regional team meetings and facilitate cross-team collaboration
Execute regional team engagement events (including two annual retreats) to facilitate relationship-building, and clear communication about strategy/priorities
With the assistance of support staff, oversee the execution of coordination tools, such as org charts, expansion plans, decision rights, and the regional calendar
Set up, monitor, and execute communication structures and mechanisms for internal communications
Other duties as assigned
Set vision for, plan, and manage communication to stakeholders, and execute annual and quarterly planning processes for the region

Clearly define and communicate the outcomes and timelines of organizational planning process; ensure alignment across the organization during these planning processes
Lead the effort to have disciplined processes to create and track progress against organizational priorities
Manage creation of the organization’s next five-year strategic plan
Other duties as assigned
Provide coordination and oversight in the development of strategic initiatives and special projects for the ED, organization, and network

Perform integrated analysis and strategic consultation on major priorities impacting the organization
Prepare briefings, memos, or presentations to communicate findings as appropriate
Lead cross-functional project teams to achieve specific outcomes on behalf of the organization
Assist in screening and selection of consultants on special projects; manage overall relationship to ensure alignment and successful execution
Facilitate implementation of Success & Sustainability initiative action steps
Coordinate regional office move
Coordinate 2019 charter renewal process with Missouri DESE, Board of Directors, Washington University in St. Louis, and regional Cabinet

What you should have...

Energetic, entrepreneurial and self-motivated with the judgment, temperament and skills required to succeed in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, exercising initial ownership and leading critical strategic projects from definition through execution
Demonstrated track record of setting ambitious goals and driving results
Bachelor’s degree required & master’s degree strongly preferred (MBA or related field)
Minimum 7 years of work experience with 3 or more years of senior leadership experience managing diverse teams
Experience working in education with educationally underserved students
Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
Excellent organization and project management skills; ability to implement programs, manage details, and work independently; ability to develop, revise, and implement procedures and systems; and ability to manage multiple projects and set priorities accordingly
Strong judgment and decision-making skills
A passion for the mission of KIPP and our students
Excellent relationship builder with demonstrated experience managing stakeholders, leading change and promoting strong teamwork
