Assessment Technology Engineering, a division of Pearson, provides products and services for the assessment of second languages. We are a leader in automated scoring of spoken and written language tests that use natural language processing, advanced statistical modeling, and speech recognition technologies.

The Test Development group has an exceptional opportunity for a highly organized, detail-focused, self-driven **Test Developer** .

As a Test Developer, you will manage the development of new assessments at various stages of their construction, from designing tasks and item specifications through to data collection, validation, documentation and deployment. The test development group works as a team, so all of the responsibilities described herein are typically carried out in collaboration with other members. This means that a successful candidate does not necessarily need to know how to do all of them independently upon hiring; being capable of learning them iteratively in collaboration with other team members is the most essential skill.

**What you will get to do: **

+ Design test tasks and write test specifications

+ Create test items

+ Coach voice talent

+ Recruit participants for data collection

+ Analyze data and contribute to group-written technical reports

+ Screen, train and manage groups of external contractors (item writers, reviewers, transcribers, raters)

+ Participate in technical customer support around test scores, best practices for test administration, etc.

+ Contribute to research projects related to response scoring, test scores, etc.

Test developers are responsible for the success of the projects they manage, and as such are expected to:

+ Run projects according to schedule and within budget

+ Anticipate and correct problems or shortcomings

+ Manage large teams of external contractors (typically 10 - 50 per project)

**Qualifications**

**Required Skills/Knowledge/Abilities: **

+ Master’s degree or higher in language testing, educational measurement, applied linguistics, or related field

+ 2 years of relevant work experience in education or assessment

+ High level of organizational abilities; organize/synthesize information from multiple sources

+ Ability to communicate effectively in English with co-workers, other collaborators on projects, and customers

+ Ability to prioritize while working on multiple projects at the same time, be a self-starter; need little direction to get results

**Additional desirable skills: **

+ Knowledge of programming such as SQL or Perl

+ Knowledge of statistics, research methods, other quantitative skills

+ Experience learning or teaching foreign languages
