Bay Pines VA HCS is looking for Primary Care Staff Physicians and Float Providers to care for our Nations Veterans. Responsibilities

STAFF PHYSICIAN:
Responsible for the management of patients to include examination, medical care management, coordination of consultation, referral of patients, development and operation of quality assurance and utilization programs including peer reviews. Coordinates health care needs according to guidelines established by the Department of VA and sound medical practice. Selectee will be responsible for managing an assigned panel of patients, Traveling Veterans and Unassigned Veterans who present to the Bay Pines VA HCS.

FLOAT PROVIDER:
1) Manage* a Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) when a PACT Primary Care Provider (PCP) is on leave.
2) Manage a vacant PACT panel or a new PACT position is created.
3) Cover the Clinical Access Unit (CAU) or unassigned patient clinic when a provider is on leave or
4) Cover the CAU or unassigned patient clinic when there is a provider vacancy, urgent need or the FP is not assigned to PACT coverage. Coverage scenarios and locations may change on a daily basis based on patient care needs.

The ability to be present at any Bay Pines care center is essential. FP's may participate in the Bay Pines motor pool if it is available at their parent station as long as they maintain all of the required elements essential to participating in the program. If for any reason a FP cannot participate in the motor pool program or a government vehicle is unavailable for use, the FP is still responsible for arriving at their assigned location on time. Private vehicle usage will be reimbursed based on existing travel pay criteria. Failure to maintain the ability to be present at any Bay Pines location may lead to disciplinary action including termination.

Work Schedule: Varying tours of duty may include extended hours, weekends, nights, irregular tours and/or holidays.
When covering an outlying PACT team, time may be built in the FP clinic schedule to accommodate unassigned Veteran care the typical FP tour of duty is 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday. FPs assigned an extended hours tour of duty will work according to the schedule at their assigned location.

  • 'manage' is defined as: performing all the duties expected of a full time PACT provider, including patient visits, view alerts, Secure Messaging, PACT phone calls, collaboration, case management, paperwork, etc.
If a FP is detailed to a work station and provided 'travel and accommodation', they would be assigned a full clinic schedule (8:00 AM to 4:30 PM) except for the days they travel to and from their primary work station.

PHYSICIAN'S OVER HIRE:

Qualifications

Basic Requirements :
United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in medicine or osteopathic medicine. The degree must have been obtained from one of the schools approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs for the year in which the course of study was completed.
Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia.
Completion of residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification.
Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Physical Requirements: Use of fingers, walking (up to 4 hours), standing (up to 4 hours), ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other eye, hearing (aid permitted). Environment Factors, working closely with others, working with hands in water (frequent hand washing), working around moving objects and vehicles, protracted or irregular hours of work. Drive a motor vehicle.

Annual leave shall accrue for full-time physicians at the rate of 26 days per leave year (1 day per pay period).
