The Chicago Public Schools (CPS) has set ambitious goals to ensure that every child – in every school and every neighborhood – has access to a world-class learning experience from birth, resulting in graduation from high school, college and career-ready.

This position supports the department in project coordination, data compilation and maintenance and administrative support. Coordinates distribution of goods to CPS sites and sister governmental agencies to ensure compliance with departmental and Board of Education policies and procedures.


Order Fulfillment

o Efficiently pick customer orders or shipments. Must ensure that the correct number of units and type of product is picked and prepped appropriately for shipment within a non- automated pick/pack environment.
o Package product into bags, boxes, or totes per customer specifications.
o Read and disseminate information on the product specifications and packaging requirements.

Inbound Receipt

o Efficiently unload, segregate, count and prep supplier and warehouse transfer inventory for compliance checks, customer defined pre-receipt checks, and systemic work station receipt.

o Receipt single-unit item and multiple-unit item product via the Warehouse Asset Management

System to ensure accurate unit item counts and product descriptions are captured.

Quality Control

o Process case and unit level inventory in adherence to stated customer requirements to include checking for correct case size, case information, and product type and unit match and log action items accordingly. This includes checking, logging, solving for and updating customers and management on errant shipments and inventory.

Inventory Control

o Inspects condition of any shipments both arriving and being distributed. Alerting management of and discrepancies.

o Accurately count and process inventory by location, unit count, size, and product type during inventory reconciliation and inbound receiving activities.

o Understand and utilize time management skills to monitor and move workload through the system.

o Verify proper item is in the original packaging in preparation for distribution.

o Assist in physical inventories and manage the accurate counting and reconciliation of customer unit and case inventory.

o Process surplus furniture returns, inspecting the items for wear and determining proper disposition. Conduct a quality inspection and, if determined to be a useable unit, enter back into inventory. If the item(s) are not in useable condition, prepare the product for recycling.

Material Handling

o Load, unload, move, stock, stage, and transport product to shipping locations utilizing non-

powered and powered material handling equipment.

General Warehouse

o Maintain a clean, neat, orderly, and safe work area at all times.

o Complete daily inspection of equipment.

o Reconciles and ensures that Receiving Information Form’s (RIF’s) are accurate.

o Monitors compliance with established safety policies and procedures, both OSHA and internal.

o Perform other duties as assigned.


  • High School Diploma required
  • 3 years or more of inventory control experience.
  • Ability to lift 50 to 70 pounds on a daily basis.

Residency Requirement:
As a condition of employment with the Chicago Public Schools (CPS), employees are required to live within the geographic boundaries of the City of Chicago within six months of his or her CPS hire date and maintain residency throughout their employment with the district.
