Housing Action Illinois is a statewide coalition that has been leading the movement to protect and expand the availability of quality, affordable housing and end homelessness in Illinois for more than 30 years. Our 160+ member organizations include housing counseling agencies, homeless service providers, developers of affordable housing, and policymakers. We bring everyone together to work toward an Illinois where everyone has a stable, good home. Our Capacity Building department’s work focuses on supporting housing counseling organizations and community development corporations to serve Illinois residents. Our VISTA will focus on enhancing and amplifying the critical services offered by housing counselors and community development corporations. See the member duties section for more information about the specific objectives of this position. To accomplish all of this, we’re looking for someone who is passionate about housing, understands the efficacy of housing counselors and community development corporations, and wants to leave their mark on housing counseling and community development in Illinois. We will need an individual who is well-organized, communicates effectively, takes initiative, wants to learn, and can balance a wide variety of projects. This position is a part of the Housing Action VISTA Network, which is an AmeriCorps VISTA program managed by Housing Action Illinois since 2010. As such, this position will receive customized training, support, guidance, and networking opportunities, in addition to the traditional opportunities for AmeriCorps VISTA positions.
