The Role

We are looking for a Computational Biologist // Statistical Geneticist to join our growing Computational Biology and Informatics team and help us expand our biological data analysis and computational capabilities. The role will be based at the company headquarters in Cambridge, MA.

Your responsibilities …

  • Develop and adapt existing variant prioritization and association techniques from clinical to crop genetics
  • Analyze whole genome sequencing and genotyping data
  • Integrate multiple sources of public and internally generated 'omic data for target prioritization
  • In collaboration with software engineers, Implement large-scale genetic variant calling and storage methodologies and propose improvements to existing methodologies
  • Perform and leverage state of the art genome assemblies to enable variant identification, association studies, and advanced breeding
  • Creatively design experiments to aid in variant identification by utilizing Inari's in house high throughput experimental and assay platforms
  • Present results to internal and external scientists through talks, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and conference presentations
  • May manage junior-level analysts
You should have …

  • Interest in applying genetics and genomics to improve the human condition by making crops which are better for our planet, easier to grow, and healthier to eat.
  • Deep familiarity with current literature of computational biology and genomics as applied to clinical genetics and/or agricultural species improvement
  • Willingness to understand new genetic systems
  • Interest and aptitude to apply modern machine learning techniques to genetic variant data
  • Experience using novel methods to combine multiple sources of genomic data to derive actionable insights
  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Computational Biology, Computer Science, Statistical Genetics, Plant Breeding, Animal Breeding, Genetics, or other relevant scientific field
  • Advanced competency with one or more of the following {Python, R, Scala, or Julia} and Linux/UNIX computing environment
  • Ability to rapidly summarize data, communicate results, and act quickly and efficiently
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and handle ambiguity and constructive criticism gracefully
Bonus qualifications…

  • Experience working with any of the following: AWS, Google Cloud, Docker, Git, Agile methodologies
  • [CB] Familiarity with basic population and evolutionary genetics
  • Previous experience working with plant genomic data is a plus, but not required.
  • Previous experience with compiled languages like Java, C, or C++.
