Job Summary
Irving Public Library is seeking an innovative, creative and engaging customer service oriented professional librarian to conduct youth services programming at the Valley Ranch Irving Library. Duties include developing of a full range of library services, programs and activities for children, teenagers, families and caregivers; and supervising the work of assigned staff. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, organized, and enjoy working with children, teenagers and families; and capable of developing and conducting original programming for children and teenagers that is vibrant, encourages reading and creative thinking, and promotes the use of the library and its materials. Irving Public Library"s mission is to provide access to information for lifelong learning and promote the enjoyment of reading. With more than one million items checked out annually, the multi-branch Irving Public Library System serves a community of more than 237,000 residents that is home to one of the most diverse ZIP codes in the nation. Possession of a Master of Library Science degree from an American Library Association accredited program and one year of professional library or related experience, as well as prior experience working with children and/or teenagers, required. Applicants need to have strong knowledge and appreciation of children"s and young adult literature, and a continued desire to work with children and teenagers. Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills beneficial. Schedule will include weekend and evening hours. Applicants must submit a résumé and indicate hours of availability with application.
