The Mechanical Engineer provides expertise in the areas of design, development, qualification and production of rugged electronics circuit cards and systems and supports the Mechanical Engineering department's activities in R&D, materials science, reliability and failure analysis.
Apply detailed Mechanical Engineering theory and practice in the conceptualization, analysis, design, and validation of high performance rugged circuit card assemblies and systems.
Design and conduct experiments, collect data and interpret results, conduct analysis and write analysis and test reports. Capability to draw conclusions and reconcile differences between predicted and actual results.
Lead qualification test activities and support debug and root cause analysis of failures.
Support PWB design and analysis for high reliability rugged environments, including severe shock, vibration, and temperature extremes.
Provide technical support to failure investigations. May lead failure investigation teams. Interpreting results and draw appropriate conclusions, documenting and presenting findings to other staff
Provide technical support for bid responses and project cost estimates.
Provide leadership and oversight to other mechanical functions such as design, drafting, reliability. This may include management of third party contractors.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
3-5 years of experience, preferably in a rugged electronics field.
Experience with FEA and CFD tools and techniques is essential.
Experience with heat transfer problem solving (conduction and convection), vibration dynamics, and materials science.
Experience with Solder Joint Reliability (SJR) is an asset.
Skills in analyzing data, problem solving, leading small teams, judgment and decision making.
