General Summary of Position:
Provides non-clinical services intended to aid patients in establishing recovery from high risk of dependant alcohol and drug use problems. Works with a team at MedStar Washington Hospital (MWHC) Center that provides peer support and motivation to encourage patients who are seeking treatment for alcohol or drug dependency and addiction issues. Assists in completing referrals to treatment services and developing service plans to promote successful linkage to treatment services. Services will be provided at MWHC with appropriate follow-up; and patient’s nurse must be notified before visiting the patient.

Education:
High School Diploma/GED required.

Experience:
Actively in recovery with a minimum of two years of professional experience in a substance use disorder setting providing peer support/navigation; and/or Certified Peer Specialist through the DC Department of Behavioral Health; and/or a Recovery Coach.

Certification/Registration/Licensure:
Peer Recovery Specialist certification preferred or preferably attained within 6 months of hire.
