Location: Home-based, ideally with good access or proximity to major concentrations of private schools in one of the following areas: New England, I95 corridor from Baltimore to Newark/NYC, North Carolina or Georgia.
WorldStrides is seeking a Regional Business Development Executive, who would be focused on developing key relationships with Global Travel Coordinators at elite, predominantly private, high schools and public school districts around the eastern United States. This position will require the successful applicant to spend around 25-30% of their time on the road meeting with current WorldStrides customers and cultivating new prospects.
The WorldStrides Educational Partnerships Team has a very significant sales opportunity to exploit, so the position offers an excellent opportunity for a candidate, with a strong level of self-motivation, a committed approach and excellent communication skills, to play a pivotal part in laying the initial foundations for success, and to benefit both personally and professionally as a loyal customer base is increasingly established in the coming years.
The successful applicant will be supporting the customized educational travel requests of the schools concerned, so a good working knowledge of Europe, Asia or Latin America and previous experience in both sales and the travel industry would be very beneficial.
The position would be fully supported by our Planning and Pricing Team in Virginia and there would also be close liaison with, and ongoing assistance and guidance from your Territory Manager. The Territory Manager is currently responsible for coordinating all of the sales activities for the Partnerships team, and also the successful operation of the Global Competence portfolio of programs, which is dedicated to supporting: (i) language immersion study tours and homestays; service-learning and leadership experiences and; curriculum-based academic study programs for the humanities, social sciences and STEM.
The prestigious schools that we are supporting are constantly looking to enhance the intentional nature of their experiential travel programs and to expand the range of global education offerings available to their students.
In addition to liaising with schools on our range of highly academic and immersive Global Competence programs, the Educational Partnerships team is always focused on the goal of establishing long-term partner relationships with these elite schools, where a Global Travel Coordinator may be responsible for the successful operation of anywhere from 5-25 domestic and/or international travel programs each year. In this context, the Partnerships team plays a very active role in generating leads for all other WorldStrides business units and in offering a very holistic range of services to support partner schools, through several risk management, chaperon training, academic credit and financial aid resources that have been developed for the WorldStrides organization as a whole.
Job Description – Position and Duties:
Handle between 30-50 school accounts on an annual basis;
Review, refine and expand the current database of contacts at these elite schools;
Phone and e-mail communications to secure appointments with the relevant contacts and departments;
Generate leads using all of these sales channels and respond by providing custom-designed international tour itineraries and costings for each group;
Regular travel for scheduled meetings, presentations and conferences;
Meet with Principals, Global Travel Coordinators or Heads of Department, as a means of lead generation for Global Competence programs or any of the WorldStrides product lines;
Interact authoritatively and knowledgeably with High School Principals, senior administrators and Global Travel Coordinators on an ongoing basis, in such a way that trust and close relationships are established;
Provide formal evening presentations, on all international destinations, to potential school groups;
Lead meetings for a group of interested faculty/students or give PowerPoint presentations to classes;
Attend and represent WorldStrides at private school, language and global travel conferences to promote WorldStrides programs, meet clients and generate leads;
Maintain and monitor all progress, contacts and personal sales activity through preferred CRM system;
While on the road, maintain communication with clients, prepare notes and written responses and follow ups from the day’s meetings, and enter any new contacts secured in preferred CRM system;
Drive attendance for our Global Awareness Summits and ensure that participation from key travel decision-makers at our target schools is optimized for these events;
Participate in and/or manage assigned development projects as required.
Participate in strategic planning sessions with the Educational Partnerships Leadership team.
Foster and nurture professional working relationships to promote successful outcomes within our own team and across the organization.
Individual Sales Performance & Targets
The initial focus for the role will be on setting up meetings to generate leads and solid opportunities for future group travel. The following outcomes will be target areas in the longer term, where successful performance will be directly rewarded as you grow and expand the level of business in your region:

You will also work closely with the Sales Leadership Team to:
Plan and prioritize sales activities for best efficiency at all times;
Strategize to meet specific sales targets and increase total sales at assigned schools in your region;
Ensure responsiveness to customer requests for tour proposals and information;
Stay in regular contact with an assigned territory of sales prospects, repeat customers and Principals and Global Travel Coordinators who have previously had opportunities in the system;
Ensure client liaison, proposals and costings maintain the required high standard of accuracy and quality;
Contribute to the overall efficiency, effectiveness and standing of the Partnerships Team;
Effectively and creatively problem solve and manage change in a rapidly expanding and developing organization;
Maintain a positive outlook and a relentless desire to achieve and succeed
The successful candidate - Skills and Experience required:
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written;
Successful travel sales experience – preferably, but not essentially, with private schools;
Have strong attention to detail, solid record-keeping, database and keyboard skills;
Be self-motivated and conscientious – someone who ensures we do whatever is needed to ‘make it happen’;
Proven ability to deliver results consistently
Interest or background in any of the following areas would be beneficial: education, foreign languages, music, art, sports or volunteer and service experiences.
Be personable, articulate and a strong communicator with languages being an asset but not essential
