Registered Nurse Health Educator responsibilities will include:
Under the direction of the Health Services Administrator (HSA), Program Manager (PM), or higher licensed medical professional, the Health Educator will be responsible for providing patient education to individuals and in-group settings, on a wide range of relative topics that contribute to the improvement of health including lifestyle and behavior education in compliance with all applicable NURSING standards, state and federal rules and regulations.
Participates as a team member in coordination of services between the psychiatric, medical team and county’s sheriff department
Provides individual education to inmates who request services or are referred by other health care staff
Provides on-going health and wellness counseling
Designs, develops and provides group education/counseling/socialization to inmates
Refers clients to alternative programs when appropriate
Assists in identifying, developing and implementing appropriate aftercare for inmates with medical or/and psychiatric needs
Assists mental health staff in gathering the necessary information needed to develop and carry out the treatment plan
Charts all findings in inmate's medical record providing written summaries of history, diagnosis and treatment course or other documentation requirements as outlined by CMGC and Facility
Actively participates in Quality Management program
Unrestricted current RN license in state of practice - must maintain licensing throughout employment
At least two years’ experience in health education preferred
Previous correctional/detention facility experience preferred
Completion of a degree in nursing
Current (and must maintain) lifesaving BLS certification through AHA
Excellent knowledge of disease process, medical care methods and procedures
In-depth knowledge of health and safety guidelines and procedures and willingness to follow them at all times
Demonstrated ability to work on a computer including but not limited to: using the Internet, Microsoft Office products and Electronic Medical Record system
Obtaining and maintaining a security clearance throughout the course of employment
