Performs skilled duties in the operation, maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning equipment, general maintenance and repair activities including a wide variety of mechanical, electrical and electronic maintenance and repair on various types of heating, ventilating and air conditioning equipment, and building automated controls (BAC) ranging from basic wall or window units and central systems to large commercial units (e.g. 360 ton chillers; 120 ton condensers)
Ideal Candidate Profile
Knowledge of Chillers, DX units, RT Units
Excellent customer service skills
An intermediate skill level in computer proficiency and familiarity working with an integrated database
Associates degree in Environmental Science or other related field; AND
Three (3) years of experience in the operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment and Building Automation Controls (BAC)
An equivalent combination of education (not less than a high school diploma/GED), training and experience that would reasonably be expected to provide the job-related competencies noted below; AND
Possession of a valid Florida Driver's License.

Duties and Responsibilities

Troubleshoots systems to determine cause of malfunctions. Troubleshoots, installs, maintains, modifies, calibrates inspects and repairs Building Automated Control (BAC) systems, motor starters, controls and variable frequency drives.
Repair and maintenance of existing Building Automation Controls (BAC) that control the operations of the air conditioning and heating and lighting controls.
Installs, operates, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment, such as, central, wall and window air conditioning units; exhaust fans and blowers.
Controls industrial processes using electronic software and applications such as scientific and analytic computer software, calculators, voltage and current meters, electronic probes, process multi-meters and specialized calibration equipment.
Performs advanced analysis and interpretation of test data and may edit PLC programs using specified BAC software. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment at times prescribed by maintenance schedules.
Operates refrigeration gauge, volt/ohm meter, vacuum pump, recovery systems, welding equipment and other related tools and equipment.
Monitors construction of new heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems to ensure compliance with project drawings and specifications. Keeps daily records and logs on operating conditions and repairs to mechanical equipment with the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System.
Requisitions material and equipment for mechanical and electrical maintenance.
Operates IAQ sampling equipment, data loggers, and duct cleaning equipment.
Collects air quality samples and performs scientific tests on the air samples in order to determine the quality of air and the type of any pollutants found in/outdoors.
Maintains and tracks inventories valued up to $10,000.00..
Performs other related duties as required.
Knowledge of building automation controls (BAC) and the diagnosis and repair of the systems.
Knowledge of IAQ standards, testing, reporting, and mitigation. Knowledge of the operation of heating, ventilating and air conditioning (HVAC) equipment. Knowledge of HVAC safety requirements. Knowledge of the electrical aspects of HVAC equipment.
Skill in using trade related and various hand and power tools. Ability to prioritize work.
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems. Working knowledge of extracting and understanding data collection form BACs.
Ability to work effectively with others. Ability to document own work and work of others. Ability to operate basic computer functions (email, digital time card, data entry, and others).
Ability to perform air and surface sampling per local, state and federal regulations. Ability to follow established procedures.
Ability to read and understand HVAC equipment drawings. Ability to coordinate contracted work and inspect once complete.
Ability to prioritize work. Knowledge of Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR).
Ability to operate a standard motor vehicle safely.
Bending, carrying, lifting heavy objects and frequent climbing.
May be required to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
Must be able to work in dirty, dusty and uncomfortable conditions involving considerable walking, climbing and carrying test equipment.
Work may require use of respiratory protection gear/equipment.
Must be able to perform a variety of physical tasks including working in confined spaces, climbing ladders, scaffolding, towers and lift buckets up to a considerable height.
Must be able and willing to be in an on-call status and respond to call outs, working non-standard duty hours and rotating shifts that include nights, weekends and holidays.
Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Emergency Management Responsibilities
In the event of an emergency or disaster, an employee may be required to respond promptly to duties and responsibilities as assigned by the employee's department, the County's Office of Emergency Management, or County Administration. Such assignments may be for before, during or after the emergency/disaster.
