1. Performs comprehensive nursing assessments in an efficient manner
· Conducts full body system analysis.
· Identifies and recognizes abnormal symptoms/changes in patient condition, established priorities, and takes appropriate action.
· Administers and performs nursing assessment in accordance with the applicable patient type which may include: Medical, Surgical, Obstetrical, Newborn, Pediatric, and or Telemetry/cardiac patients.
2. Performs all aspects of blood component administration by following applicable procedures and protocols.
· Follows lab procedure for sign out.
· Obtains patient consent appropriately.
· Ensure identification and documentation procedures are followed.
· Monitors and responds in an appropriate and effective manner to untoward events.
3. Performs intravenous therapy dynamics by following administration principles in an effective manner.
· Monitor’s fluid replacement/electrolyte imbalance
· Effectively handles the operations of various I.V. related equipment, including I.V. pumps and P.C.A. pump
· Performs I.V. access skills proficiently.
· Administers I.V. Additives appropriately.
· Effectively performs PICC, midline, port access and maintenance.
4. Collaborates with Medical Staff, management, and other health care providers to coordinate medical and nursing management of patient care from admission through discharge.
· Promotes team concept through effective communication regarding patient condition, patient care plan, and patient satisfaction with appropriate individuals that are involved in the patient’s care.
· Works effectively with ancillary areas as part of the team approach to patient care.
· Directs patient support team members effectively and appropriately.
· Demonstrates initiative and flexibility in the provision of patient care.
· Informs and involves manager regarding patient care issues in a timely and appropriately manner.
5. Maintains and performs all patient related documentation
· Utilizes only approved abbreviations in all documentation.
· Accurately reflects the plan of care.
· Follows all policies and procedures related to the documentation requirements.
6. Performs Emergency treatment as required.
· Initiates or assists in patient care in an effective and responsive manner as each situation requires.
· Triages each Emergency situation appropriately and involves other resources as appropriate.
· Administers and performs emergent care in accordance with the applicable patient population type which may range from newborn to geriatrics.
· Follows standards of BLS, ACLS, NRP preventions as needed.
· Follows emergency policies, procedures, and protocols in an effective manner.
7. Promotes and ensures patient safety in all aspects of responsibilities.
· Follows procedures and protocol to ensure safe administration of medications and monitoring for adverse effects.
· Utilizes proper body mechanics, transfer/lifting techniques to minimize fall risk to patient and injury to self.
· Implements infectious disease controls as appropriate including isolation procedures, proper use of hand washing and gloves.
· Follows proper procedures for wasting narcotics and disposal of sharps and hazardous materials
8. Performs OR Circulating Duties
· Observes surgical staff for sterile technique and intervenes when sterility is compromised.
· Maintains patient’s body temperature by utilization of BAIR Hugger and warm I.V. fluids and Irrigation.
· Assists with patient positioning while protecting boney prominences.
· Accompanies patient from OR to the RR and ensures the patient’s condition is stable before returning to the OR.
· Gives a detailed report to the RR nurse to include type of procedure done, any complication, Intake and Output, and estimated blood loss.
· Ensures family notification of patient’s condition during the procedure.
9. Completes other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to the following.
· Is able to perform Recovery Room Nurse Duties.
· Assists with outpatient procedures to include GI procedures, biopsies, excisions, etc.
· Assist with Surgery and OP procedure scheduling.
· Reviews preoperative lab results, EKG’s, and H&P prior to day of procedure
· Assists with Quality Assurance and Infection Control Audits.
· Participates in a rotating on call schedule and shows flexibility in schedule adjustments.
· Performs First Assistant scrub duties after adequate training.
10. Performs all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications include:
· Graduate of accredited school of practical nursing.
· Current Missouri RN License
· BLS and ACLS certification required; NRP preferred. If certifications are not current upon hire, must complete within six months.
· Minimum 2 years of Acute Care experience required.
Working conditions
Incumbent will be exposed to virus, disease, infection from patients. May include working variable hours, work nights, weekends, and holidays.
Physical requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and listen. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires intermittent physical activity, including standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping and crouching as well as lifting and supporting patients.
Qualifications Include: RN: Missouri RN License, BLS, ACLS.
