Billing Specialist

JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary/Objective
Under direction from the Billing Manager, this position handles billing and coding and is responsible for accurate processing of assigned charges. This position supports Care Center staff with EHR charge pass,
RCx claims scrub, and AR follow up concerns. Works with RCM vendor to facilitate good communication between the billers and AR team. Responsible for understanding payer reimbursement policy and standard charge entry billing procedures as outlined in the company’s reference guides. This position will also need a thorough understanding of healthcare billing and the full revenue cycle.
Functions (*Essential Functions)
- Eligibility and benefits verification for treatments, hospitalizations, and procedures
- Troubleshoot AR follow up and Insurance questions
- Charge Entry support for care centers
- Review patient demographics, updating as needed for accurate billing
- Follow up with payers on unpaid and underpaid claims
- Assist other departments as needed to ensure efficient documentation and billing
- Facilitate good communication between billers and the RCM AR team

Work Environment
This position operates in an office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear and walk in addition to standing during classroom training. The duties also require performing mathematical calculations and using independent judgment. This position requires the ability to lift files and other office supplies of up to 20 pounds.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree, or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
- Three to five years of Healthcare experience in billing and coding
