Staff/Senior Accountant

Objective

The primary purpose of the position is to ensure, through the proper management of department resources, that all required monthly, quarterly, and annual tasks have been completed timely and accurately. The position will be responsible for the reporting of a portfolio of commercial properties which includes maintaining accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger reconciliations, and bank reconciliations. The position will work closely with the Assistant Controller and report to the Vice President of Finance of the Asset Manager. Additionally, they will maintain detailed accounting records including fixed assets, accruals, prepaids, escrow analysis, amongst other general ledger accounts, and will assist in performing financial analysis.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Execute routine month-end close processes; prepare journal entries (recurring and non-recurring) and complete monthly general ledger closing
  • Maintain and ensure proper recording of all cash entries through Cash Management (CM) module in Timberline
  • Reconcile cash and other general ledger accounts as applicable
  • Analyze general ledger activity and assist in researching account discrepancies
  • Fixed asset maintenance, including additions, disposals, and running depreciation in Sage Fixed Assets
  • Provide support during annual external audits and quarterly compilations while also assisting with Interim audit testing
  • Ad hoc projects and analyses including but not limited to forecasting and analyzing data, assisting in the development and preparation of projection files etc.
  • Communication with Tenants regarding compliance with Rents, Real Estate Taxes, Financial Statements, Reimbursements, etc.
  • Code, verify, and enter all payables into the Accounts Payable (AP) module in Timberline.
  • Maintain vendor master records in the AP system, including adding new vendors, updating vendor contact and payment information
  • Drive annual 1099 reporting
  • Drive internal expense reporting compliance
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a strong internal control environment
  • Assist in developing new internal reports to assist with communicating info timely and to executive levels of the company
  • Prioritize and manage multiple projects, follow through on issues in a timely manner
  • Assist in identifying a new cloud-based ERP system and assisting in the implementation of that system
  • Additional duties as required

Education & Training

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting or a related Bachelor level degree
  • CPA, or equivalent level of education and/or licensing preferred
  • Minimum 2-5 years of public and/or industry accounting experience
