The Division of Project Development and Community Design is responsible for delivering projects and designs that improve transportation safety and mobility throughout the City and County of Denver in support of the Mayor’s Mobility Action Plan.
The Transportation Design team has an opening for an Engineering Supervisor. This is a great opportunity to lead a team with project management work on complex, multifaceted projects from inception to completion including the management and coordination of projects that have city-wide impact. This position requires a global, strategic understanding of city agencies and city policies, standards, and systems.
Primary responsibilities include supervision of the team that focuses on signal design and design of our multimodal projects (bicycle facilities, pedestrian safety projects, transit and general roadway projects. This team provides transportation solutions and responses to the City Council and customer inquiries including but not limited to neighborhoods and developers through the authority of the Public Works agency.
This position is also responsible for the supervision and leadership of engineering and/or planning urban mobility staff for day to day operations including but not limited to plan reviews and community transportation projects and inquiries. Additional responsibilities include planning, designing, and coordination of transportation related projects, and reviewing development and construction plans.
This position will assist in the creation and implementation of annual work programs. It will support existing Policies & Procedures and formalize existing practices into policies and procedures. The neighborhood urban mobility team monitors, evaluates, and modifies traffic signals, signs and marking to improve mobility citywide. A working knowledge of transportation infrastructure, the MUTCD, and NACTO guidelines are preferred. This position actively interacts with members of City Council, neighborhood associations/general public, Denver Police Department, Public Works management team, and other sections of Public Works and City agencies. Job duties may require attendance of evening and weekend public meetings.
As an Engineer Supervisor in this role, you will expect to:
Direct and evaluate the work of professional engineers or architects and associated personnel, provide technical expertise to staff, and establish section and staff work programs and project objectives.
Participate in preparing revisions and updating the department’s engineering or architectural standards, monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of program delivery methods and procedures, and recommend policy/procedure revisions.
Establish design and construction schedules, monitors progress of various projects and their conformance to schedules, specifications, and regulatory requirements.
Resolve sensitive, controversial, and complex technical problems involving staff, consultants, contractors, and the public.
Assist in developing and managing the budget for the unit/section and allocating funds for projects in order to accomplish yearly goals and objectives.
Develop or modifies work plans, methods, and procedures and determines work priorities.
Assign and distribute work, reviews work for accuracy and completeness, and returns assignments with recommendations for proper completion.
Resolve problems encountered during daily operations and determines standards for problem resolution.
Develop goals, document performance, provide performance feedback and formally evaluate the work of the employee; provide reward and recognition for proper and efficient performance. Assist staff to achieve performance standards and identify opportunities for continual improvement to performance standards.
While the full pay range of this Job Classification is $94,566.00 - $151,306.00, our target hiring salary for this position is between $94,566.00 - $130 ,000 , depending on education, experience and qualifications.

Bachelor's Degree in Engineering
Qualifications: Three (3) years of senior engineering experience
Licensures / Certifications:
Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application
Requires registration as a Professional Engineer (PE) by the Colorado State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers at the time of application. Or requires registration as an Architect by the Colorado State Board of Registration at the time of application.
Registration in another state will be accepted in lieu of this requirement, provided that the applicant has Colorado registration at completion of probation.
Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
No substitution of experience for education is permitted
Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements
