The CL Fellowship is a 9-month full-time position (40 hours/week) with a tentative start date of January 6, 2020. The fellowship position is intended for new professionals who wish to gain supervised professional experience that includes mentoring, educational opportunities, and clinical skill development with an emphasis on evidence-based practice. The child life fellow will work primarily as a floating staffed position providing supplemental coverage to units with high volumes or limited CL staffing. The fellow will gain a breadth of clinical experience in various areas of the hospital including pediatric emergency, PICU, outpatient services (e.g., radiology, pedi oncology), and general pediatrics. The fellow will work as a member of the clinical team and attend team meetings, track productivity data, participate in program development & evaluation, and provide direct-patient care. The child Life fellow receives a monthly stipend ($2,200/month - without benefits) and will be required to complete a W-9 IRS form.
The Child Life Fellowship position is offered to a new child life professional who has successfully completed a child life internship (minimum 600 hours), and is either certified in child life or eligible to take the child life certification exam.

Covenant Children’s Hospital, part of the Covenant Health system, is a 269-bed freestanding children’s hospital located in Lubbock, Texas. Inpatient units include a pediatric ICU, general pediatric unit, and neonatal intensive care unit. The hospital also includes a level-2 Pediatric Trauma Emergency Department. The hospital has three therapeutic playroom spaces, a songwriting/music recording studio, and a children’s performance theater with closed-circuit television.
The Department of Integrative Care includes Child Life, Music Therapy, Arts in Medicine and Pediatric Mental Health. Our mission is to provide developmental, educational, and expressive opportunities through play and the creative arts to help our children and families better cope with illness, hospitalization, and recovery. We currently have 5 full-time child life specialists, one full-time music therapist, two mental health counselors, and a part-time child life activities aide.
