The Laboratories of Cognitive Neuroscience (LCN) at Boston Children’s Hospital are dedicated to furthering our understanding of brain and cognitive development in children diagnosed with or at risk for various developmental disorders, as well as in typically developing children with a range of early experiences. Our multidisciplinary team of researchers brings together experts from a wide range of fields, including neuroscience, psychology, and education. In collaboration with clinical experts in fields such as developmental pediatrics and child neurology, we are working to expand our knowledge of neurodevelopment. Through this collaborative and comprehensive approach, we aim to drive the science forward as rapidly as possible, so that we can translate what we learn into earlier identification, improved therapies, and better outcomes for children and families affected by developmental disorders or other early risk exposures known to impact development.
The Clinical Research Specialist I will join the research team of a project established by the Research Network on Toxic Stress and Health, spearheaded by the Harvard Center on the Developing Child. This project aims to identify bio- and bio-behavioral markers of stress reactivity during infants’ first year of life that can ultimately be measured in a pediatric primary care setting. This exciting project longitudinally follows mother-infant pairs at several time points during infants’ first year of life, and again when they are 24 and 36 months. Infants from predominantly low-socioeconomic backgrounds are tested using electrophysiology, eye tracking, clinical, and behavioral measures.
This Clinical Research Specialist I will be responsible for:
Working with and coordinating a team of undergraduate students, fellows and staff members associated with the research project.
Recruitment, scheduling, and ongoing communication with families.
IRB management and some aspects of data management.
Conducting study visits including collection of all measures and performance of standardized developmental assessments.
To qualify, you must have:
The knowledge of theories, principles, and concepts acquired through completion of a Bachelor's degree in psychology, cognitive science, neuroscience, or related field, and a minimum three years of relevant work experience or Masters of Science and one year of relevant work experience.
A 2-year commitment to the position.
At least two years of paid professional experience working in a research setting with human subjects.
Availability for flexible scheduling including evenings and weekends.
Computer skills including working knowledge of PC and Mac operating systems, basic statistics software (e.g. Excel, SPSS), and basic experimental presentation and collection software (e.g., ePrime, Redcap, Matlab).
Ability to assist with grant preparation, publications, presentations and/or applications to an Institutional Review Board.
High level of motivation; ability to work independently and as part of a team; excellent communication, organization, and attention to detail.
Preferred experience includes:
Knowledge of psychophysiological/electrophysiological recording and/or eye-tracking measures.
Experience with administering and scoring standardized developmental assessments (e.g., the MSEL).
