The Urology Nurse Practitioner Team Manager (NPTM) candidate is an essential member of the interdisciplinary care team for patients receiving ambulatory care through the Department of Urology. Utilizing a comprehensive array of diagnostic studies/tests and modalities the NPTM will have a key role in treating patients with urological dysfunction including the evaluation and treatment of lower urinary tract function in adult patients with a variety of voiding disorders from the simple to the complex including those associated with complex neurological, anatomical and functional issues. The NPTM will care for urologic care delivery needs of both male and female patients across the lifespan, teenagers to older adults. The NPTM must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age appropriate care. The role requires significant interdisciplinary team work and excellent communication
Works in collaboration with the attending physicians to:
Performs diagnostic evaluations in clinic and by fluoroscopy in the Department of Radiology, pre and post evaluation follow up, review of patient record and history before and after testing, patient/caregiver education regarding testing, telephone triage, patient education around the management of dysfunctional elimination issues, urinary tract infections and diagnostic tests.
Ensures a seamless patient flow and positive patient experience through the outpatient clinic and across departments including radiology and others. Candidate will work in collaboration with the attending physicians, physician’s assistants, nurses, administrative assistants and other providers internal and external to the department.
Provides extensive patient support for ongoing urologic needs including medication management, patient education and symptom management. Responds to clinical questions from patients and physicians in a timely manner; completes administrative tasks such as returning phone calls, updating clinic notes and completion of dictations in a timely manner; keep collaborating and referring physicians informed as appropriate.
Effectively prioritizes patient care needs; reads, interprets and applies radiology procedure results to patient care and treatment with physician collaboration. Follow up with patients and referring physicians as needed.
Participates in other selected procedures as needed to ensure the efficiency of the department and the clinic
Other duties as assigned.
Assumes responsibility for professional development by attending internal and external educational meetings and reads appropriate professional journals to maintain and enhance skills and competence.
Serves as a mentor to urology department nursing staff in training, students, and house staff, educating others while continuing to learn and expand one’s own knowledge base.
Performs with the hiring, supervision and performance evaluation for team members.
Behaves as a role model for fellow team members to emulate, and functions as an empathic practitioner.
Operations Support/Administrative Responsibilities
Supports ongoing quality initiatives and strives to learn new systems and technologies as they become available to improve patients care, documentation, and communication. Remains proficient with BWH computer systems as needed to independently perform daily tasks such as order entry, documentation of facility administered medications and incident/safety reporting.
Works closely with the billing team to maintain thorough documentation for proper reimbursement and serves as a resource for the hospital in the future for nurse practitioner billing.
Continues to provide the highest standard of patient care, while incorporating measures that improving efficiency and cost-effectiveness within the department and hospital.
3 – 5 years of Nurse Practitioner related clinical experience in Urology or a surgical practice preferred
Urology and Urodynamic Study experience with a demonstrated ability to educate patients and families around current treatments and medications preferred
Adult/Family Health Certification preferred
