The Charlton School is a clinically focused, therapeutic residential and day treatment program serving 42 students in grades 8-12 within our NYS approved 853 school. Major Duties:
Student Advisement & Scheduling
- Maintain current knowledge of NYS diploma requirements, and use that knowledge to perform student credit analyses. Advise students, families, and districts regarding progression towards graduation. Prepare documentation and transcripts as needed to ensure effective coordinated action between the Charlton School and home school districts.
- Collaboration with the leadership team to generate a master schedule which ensures all students are enrolled in required classes for graduation.
- Under supervision of Director of Education, maintain liaison in student related matters with the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High school for students cross registered with the district
- Establish and maintain relationships with home school district personnel in guidance and special education departments.
Support Students in Preparation for Post-Secondary Planning
- Assist students in the exploration of colleges and in the completion of applications to college.
- Introduce students to transition/career planning programs. Assist students in using and maintaining career planning resources.
- Coordinate referrals to specialists in school, home schools and State and private agencies (ACCESS-VR and OPWDD). Complete information requests and maintain effective relationships to accomplish above as needed.
State Testing Coordination
- Manage all processes for scheduling and obtaining NYS Regents and middle school tests.
Provide Counseling Support to Students
- Provide individual and group counseling sessions for students in accordance with IEP expectations.
Participate in inter-agency team meetings
- Member of both the Child Study Team and Ketchum-Grande school based committees such as Student Support Team and individualized MTSS meetings.
