GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Clinic Nurse Manager or Registered Nurse, will perform tasks supporting delivery of patient care. While performing tasks, under the supervision of the Registered Nurse, strong customer service skills are essential with internal and external customers. Position will provide clinical and operational support during the delivery of patient care. Prepares patients, for examination, procedures, and takes vital signs records in the Electronic Medical Record. Supports front desk operations as necessary. In collaboration with the Clinic Nurse Manager, facilitates ordering of medical supplies. Participates in maintaining a safe patient environment at all times.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Escorts patient to examination room, completes vital signs, removes dressings, takes pictures of all wounds appropriately, positions patient comfortably for nursing and medical examination, and uploads information into EMR as per HIPAA guidelines.

Assists in delivery of care with physician/nurse as needed.

Facilitates patient process and flow in a timely manner.

Maintains a neat, clean and organized work environment, assisting colleagues as needed.

Responsible for providing support in hyperbaric unit as needed. Maintaining visual observation and/or audible contact with the hyperbaric control panel and patients in hyperbaric chambers at all times. Providing report to Hyperbaric Technician regarding patient’s condition and observations.

Attends and participates in staff meetings and required in-services.

Orders clinical supplies as appropriate.

Performs additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Possesses strong verbal communication skills; demonstrating ability to communicate with adult and geriatric age groups.

Extensive wound care experience

Ability to work independently.

Ability to work collaboratively in team environment.

Ability to adapt to changing patient flow schedules.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS PREFERRED:

Possesses working knowledge of EMR system(s) and documentation requirements.

Possesses working knowledge of patient confidentiality standards and requirements.

Possesses working knowledge of outpatient provider services.

Ability to communicate and work closely with physicians

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

High School Diploma/GED.

Appropriate medical training for licensure and/or certification as a medical assistant or

Minimum 6 months of work experience as EMT/Paramedic or equivalent military medical experience

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Associate’s degree in Medical Assistant

Greater than 6 months of work experience as a Medical Assistant with wound care experience, EMT/Paramedic or equivalent military medical experience.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION REQUIRED:

BLS issued from American Heart Association.

Current Medical Assistant certification or

Current Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic license or national registry.

LICENSURE, CERTIFICATION OR REGISTRATION PREFERRED:

Completion of UHMS accredited hyperbaric course.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

Maintains patient flow in appropriate and timely manner.

Completes patient preparation processes and documents EMR appropriately and in timely manner.

Wound pictures are completed using proper safety methodology, lighting, background and from same angel as before.

Adheres to the established clinical processes and procedures in providing patient care.

Demonstrates team work with co-workers and flexibility with changes.

Demonstrates adherence to IHS policies and procedures

Remains current with all appropriate licensures and certifications.

Maintains a safe patient environment.
