This position requires a Class B or greater CDL with the ability to drive a manual transmission (no E restriction). This job is labor intensive and is hard work. 90% of your day will be in the field working pulling heavy mulch filled hoses around properties and only 10% of your day will be actually driving a truck. We are expanding our team of ‘A Players’ and looking for an organized and detailed thinker to join our fun group of landscape professionals. The Mulch Blowing Installation foreman works under the guidance of our seasoned operations manager to lead a team installing a wide range of mulch and soil products. We install mulch at residential and commercial properties, playground chips at schools and churches, and compost products over turf. You may also will be driving our Hooklift delivery truck making equipment and material deliveries.

Objective & Responsibilities:

The mulch blowing crew leader is a highly detailed individual who thrives in organizing & managing multiple people, tasks and priorities in an efficient way. The mulch blowing leader is accountable to meeting or beating job budgets and company goals. A bonus is paid for jobs that meet quality standards. You must also be able to handle problems on the fly and being somewhat mechanically minded is a must. This leader is responsible for providing exceptional customer service, while ensuring above industry average gross profit and developing the skills of their team members. This will be accomplished by performing the following tasks:

  • Supervision, training and development of team members.
  • Ensure production standards are being met by managing jobs and training on-site.
  • Set the pace to ensure man hour budgets are met and efficiency is maximized.
  • Follow plans to ensure that quality and job specs are met.
  • Complete daily paperwork recording all labor and materials used on the job.
  • Provide customer service relating to schedules, trouble shooting and change orders.
  • Update the account managers as to progress of jobs.
  • Ensure the proper operation and maintenance of equipment with the Fleet Mechanic.
  • Ensure that all safety procedures and safety programs are being followed.
  • Report and record all accidents, work injuries and property damage complaints.
  • Attend weekly company safety meetings.
  • Ensure the safety of yourself, your team, and the people around you.

Direct Reports & Relationships:

  • The crew leader will report directly to the Operations manager on a daily basis.
  • The crew leader will work closely with the sales team, fleet mechanic, and operations manager to properly coordinate all projects, staff, equipment, and materials needed.

Experience, Skills & Education:

  • 3+ years combined experience in landscape installation or construction.
  • High School degree or GED equivalent.
  • Experience leading, organizing and managing multiple people is a must.
  • Working knowledge of fleet equipment and trucks used in the industry.
  • Must have the ability to read landscape plans and scaled drawings.
  • Valid Class B driver’s license (no E restriction) and clean driving with no criminal record.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a professional, positive and charismatic demeanor at all times.

Working Schedule:

  • Willing to work long hours as necessary to accomplish set goals
  • Approximate work load / week (spring – 55hrs plus, summer – 50hrs, fall 50hrs, winter 30-40hrs)
  • Mulch crew leaders arrive at 7am or earlier
  • Must be willing to work some Saturdays during peak demand seasons.
  • Must have the ability to operate equipment, trucks and lift up to 80lbs.
  • Must be comfortable with a highly seasonal job and enjoy the change of pace

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Base pay of $17/hr plus $1/yd of installed mulch up to 40 yards and $2/yd over 40. Annual commission approx $10,000/yr. Commission pay starts when assigned as crew lead on mulch truck.
