Two positions to be filled.

Under general supervision of a Dentist and/or Dental Hygienist this position will perform and/or provide instructional support to the Dental Assistant and/or Dental Hygiene education program faculty.
Helps faculty with set up of pre-clinic and dental materials labs.
Helps in the sterilization area when students need additional instruction.
Evaluates student performance during front desk and sterilization rotations.
Guarantees confidentiality of all program sensitive information.
Organizes office records and confidential medical information.
Serves as the Dental Department Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification maintenance coordinator.
Monitors equipment and ensures proper sterilization and disinfection techniques.
Schedules collection of contaminated waste materials for the Public Safety, Allied and Human Services Division.
Manages equipment maintenance daily and monitors extended service needs.
Helps to maintain cleanliness of lab.
Participates in student instruction to help with proper disinfection and sterilization.
Ensures clinic area is ready for patient treatment and student instruction.
Assists students with clinic and patient scheduling.
Maintains a high level of confidentiality (patient records, etc.).
Receives all student and visitors to the dental clinic in a friendly, helpful and professional manner.
Answers incoming telephone calls and accurately and professionally responds to questions regarding routine division and instructional matters.
Responds to inquiries regarding scheduling and patient records.
Completes patient check-in and check-out procedures.
Participates in clinic/community outreach initiatives oriented at enhancing oral health (e.g. Dental Dazzle and Give Kids a Smile).
Oversees the timely and appropriate collection of fees for clinic services.
Requests supplies (printer cartridges, stationery, etc.).
Education and Experience:
Certified Dental Assistant through the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).
Current BLS (CPR) certification.
Previous dental practice management.
Previous grant management experience to include workload monitoring and reporting processes.
Basic knowledge of Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) requirements for accredited dental assisting and dental hygiene programs.
Extensive knowledge base and expertise regarding the programs offered in the Dental Services and Education Department.
Knowledge of Virginia Department of Health requirements for course/student files.
General knowledge of Commission on Dental Accreditation (CODA) file maintenance requirements.
General knowledge of division programmatic offerings.
Extensive knowledge of office management systems, processes, and procedures.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office systems.
Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) policies.

Cross train to handle patient entry into the clinic.
Certified Dental Assistant II through the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB).
Current American Heart Association BLS Instructor Certification.
Previous experience representing an institution of higher education on matters of promoting oral health and hygiene programs and initiatives.
Previous experience in community outreach initiatives.
Previous experience in a higher education dental education and/or dental clinic setting.
Previous experience working with specially accredited educational programs.
Previous experience in an accredited dental educational department/program.
Graduate of an accredited dental school.
Office experience to include administrative duties and budget experience.
Experience working in an office setting and working with a diverse, faculty, staff, student and community populations.
Hours of Duty: Variable, not to exceed 29 hours per week. Monday – Friday, 8 a.m. – 7 p.m. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
