Global External Innovation is an organizational entity comprised of three parts: 1) J&J Innovation - J&J’s early stage innovation engine responsible for interfacing and transacting with the entrepreneurial healthcare ecosystem around the world. J&J Innovation’s primary role is to enable the identification and onboarding of new products and technologies across all sectors. J&J Innovation makes investments and transacts in the fields of pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, medical and surgical devices, health care information technology, diagnostics and consumer products. The Senior Financial Analyst will focus on being a business partner to all GEI functions by providing financial leadership, analysis, reporting, and compliance for this area. The role reports to a Sr. Manager level leader within the J&J Innovation organization.
Specifically, core responsibilities will include:
The Senior Financial Analyst (SFA) will own all JJDC equity portfolio inputs for close, compliance, BVA reporting, forecasting cycles, and coordinating with tax and operating companies.
The SFA will be responsible for coordinating/executing month and quarter end close activities for JJDC transactions, interfacing with the JJDC Finance Managers as well as each Sector’s finance teams for overall management of JJDC close transactions.
The SFA will be responsible for the financial leadership and support of the JJI-JJDC equity portfolio inputs into the total Global External Innovation Corporate submissions.
This individual will be directly responsible for collaborating and teaming with Senior Leaders within GEI and Corporate Headquarters, the broader JJI Finance teams, JJDC Operations, and across the Innovation Centers.
The Sr. Analyst will be a key business partner to the JJDC Finance Managers in portfolio management including forecasting, risk assessments, lifecycle management and executive reporting.
He/She will ensure all work is compliant with J&J World Wide Procedures and relevant accounting guidance and will support the Finance Managers with audit requests.
This person will identify and implement business process improvement projects and other ad hoc requests across JJDC, regional Innovation Centers and J&J Operating Companies.
Lead/Support other key FP&A processes as requested by GEI finance management. This includes assisting, and at times leading, specific close and forecast activities and other executive reporting requests for total GEI.
The SFA will co-lead the overall coordination and execution of month-end and quarter-end close for total Global External Innovation by ensuring all JJDC, LCI, and WWD inputs into the overall consolidated results are submitted accurately/timely.
The Senior Financial Analyst will work closely with the LCI Finance Controller and Senior Leaders to shape the organizational design and forecast development for the new LCI organization.
The SFA will work proactively with the LCI Finance Controller in the design and implementation of reporting processes to support senior/EC level executive reporting. This includes assessing technology requirements, framing presentations and developing processes to support efficient and effective reporting outputs.
The SFA will own all Lung Cancer Initiative (LCI) quarter-end close processes, including reconciling headcount, booking journal entries and completing balance sheet reconciliations timely/accurately on LCI’s ledger. This will include leading the development of new processes and implementing efficiencies on existing processes.
He/She will be responsible for managing and reporting all WWD impacts into the overall LCI results. This will involve business partnering with the WWD Finance team in Pharm.
The SFA will assist the FP&A Senior Manager and LCI Finance Controller on additional ad hoc requests or special projects as assigned, including executive reporting.
He/She will ensure all LCI transactions are compliant with WWPs, tax, and audit guidelines.
A minimum of 2 years of progressive career advancement in either Finance or a related function is required.
A minimum of a Bachelors’ degree is required.
An MBA, CMA, or CPA is preferred.
Budget management experience and an understanding of tax implications, IP, venture capital deals, etc. are preferred.
Strong communication skills and some experience with interfacing with senior levels of leadership is preferred.
A selfless individual who is an exceptional collaborator as a member of a working team is required.
Strong accounting knowledge and analytical skills are required.
Intermediate-level experience utilizing Excel and PowerPoint is required.
Skills in strategic thinking and comfort with ambiguity are required.
Experience with process improvement is preferred.
Previous people management experience is preferred.
Familiarity with SAP and TM1 is preferred.
The ability to travel up to 5% of domestic and international is required.
