The Seasonal STEAM Day Camp Director will manage our Manhattan College Summer Day Camp operations. The Director is responsible for fostering a positive relationship with parents, campers, staff and college, with the goal of meeting their needs as best as possible while ensuring that camp runs smoothly and safely. The Director, in collaboration with the Director of Non-Credit Programs is also responsible for ensuring we hire a top-notch group of engaged summer staff and volunteers.
The Director needs to be able to manage both high-level processes and on-the-ground task oriented work and have the interpersonal savvy needed to work collaboratively and effectively with a wide range of individuals towards a common goal.
Overseeing a seasonal staff of 9-12, this person will be expected to foster a culture that values cooperation and respect, inspires team morale, and encourages staff to produce quality work in their commitment to Manhattan College’s mission.
This position reports to the Director of Non-Credit Programs, School of Continuing and Professional Studies.
Our season runs from Monday, June 24 to Friday, August 16, 2019 on business days, 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. Parents may drop off their children as early as 8/8:30 am and pick them up as late as 6 pm. The day camp is for 6 to 12 year old children.
AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
Ensure that day camp needs are met
Manage all program aspects of summer camp operations
Overall supervision of staff including staff training, performance reviews and ongoing staff engagement
Coordinate activity teachers and volunteer schedules
Conduct weekly camp staff meetings
Manage camp calendar and schedule for shared facilities
Help develop, coordinate and oversaw lesson planning design for STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) and free play activities
Ensure adherence to security and emergency preparedness protocols and procedures
Teach at least one activity per day to foster involvement with campers
Address parent correspondence and questions in a timely manner. As well as reporting every incident to the Non-Credit Programs Director and parents appropriately.
Manage social media outlets, specifically Facebook in a daily basis to show parents the daily activities in a closed/private group
EDUCATION, CERTIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
(1) Bachelor's Degree with at least three summer-seasons of supervising similar camp activities or (2) Experience as a teacher or after-school program director/counselor, and at least one summer of supervisory experience at a similar summer camp.
Must be fingerprinted with NY State and have CPR/First Aid certifications.
Willingness to work irregular hours and operate with daily exposure to the sun and heat and other environmental conditions.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and G-Suite
