Carlock Copeland & Stair, LLP is seeking an experienced Civil Litigation Paralegal for our Atlanta office. This person will handle a variety of assignments, assisting attorneys in all aspects of litigation support including discovery, trial preparation, scheduling, state and federal filing including electronic filings and legal billing.

Practice Area: Civil Litigation Defense

Reports to: Practice Group Leader

Position Status: Full-time, Non-exempt

Summary of Position

The Paralegal will support partners, of counsel and associate attorneys in providing litigation defense services to their clients. E-filing, assisting with deposition, hearing and trial preparation, including preparing timelines, designing demonstratives and other visual aids. Must have excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to communicate verbally and written, proficient MS Office Suite, electronic document management system, preferably iManage/FileSite, and experience with legal time and billing system.

Essential Job Requirements

  • Draft deposition notices, extensions, standard discovery requests, HIPAA releases.
  • Scheduling: deposition, trial preparation, court reporters, defense counsel meetings, internal meetings, meetings w/ treating physicians/fact witnesses & counsel if applicable.
  • Research as requested by attorneys.
  • Draft & design demonstratives.
  • Analyze damages claims (reviewing bills, creating spreadsheet comparison).
  • E-File experience, comfort level with learning and adhering to filing requirements among a variety of platforms.
  • Perform e-billing maintenance: submitting budgets, managing contested bills, overseeing timekeeper submissions, communicating with accounting department.
  • Proficient MS Office Suite, particularly Outlook and Word.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Electronic document management system experience, preferably iManage / Filesite
  • Ability to easily assimilate to various software and technology based applications
  • Ability to take instruction from attorneys and work productively independently as well as with a team in a fast paced, sometimes high pressure, deadline driven environment

Required Skills

  • Minimum three (3) years’ paralegal experience in a law firm.
  • High school diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Paralegal certificate preferred.
  • Excellent spelling and grammar.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
  • Ability to communicate productively and professionally with attorneys, colleagues, clients and vendors.

Physical Requirements

Computer work, sitting for long periods of time, bending, reaching, occasionally carrying case files boxes up to 25 lbs.

Cognitive Requirements

Must be able to carry out complex verbal and written instructions. Critical thinking and problem solving skills.

Equipment Used

Computer, telephone, copier, fax, document scanner, other office equipment as needed.
