Under the Controller's overarching guidance, the Senior Accountant strategizes and oversees the accounting department's operations. This involves ensuring adherence to Marmon Group's policies and guidelines, including meeting deadlines for the closing process, while also maintaining compliance with generally accepted accounting standards.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This role entails overseeing the closing procedures on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, as well as managing all balance sheet reconciliations. Additionally, it involves managing the day-to-day operations of the Accounting department.
ESSENTIAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Determination, establishment and coordination of accounting policies and practices, procedures, and internal controls.
- The development of accounting and management information systems.
- The formulation of uniform, consistent and timely financial reporting.
- Establishment of guidelines and procedures necessary for purchase investigations and the overall coordination and reporting of such investigation. Such guidelines and procedures must agree with Marmon Group policies and guidelines.
- Guidance and encouragement of staff under the Controller's supervision.
- Coordinate plant accounting policies, practices, and internal control procedures consistent with Marmon Group policies and guidelines.
- Responsible for the day-to-day operations of the accounting department, including AP, AR, Payroll, Cash Management, Fixed Assets, Sales and Use tax reporting, Account Reconciliations, Accruals, and Inventory Management.
- Analyze and evaluate financial and operational data for effective management action on a timely basis.
- Prepare month end close reports and manage the closing cycle within short time frame.
- Maintain generally accepted accounting standards and procedures in accordance with Marmon Group policies and guidelines.
- A comprehensive grasp of a robust ERP system (Sage 500/Sage X3) and its transaction processes is essential. The candidate should possess the ability to troubleshoot transaction-related issues effectively.
- The position will be responsible for maintaining accurate inventory costing.
- Other responsibilities as assigned.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree preferred; Master’s degree desired. In lieu of degree, equivalent combination of education, training and 7-10 years experience.
- 3 to 7 years of accounting experience
- 3-5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred.
