Natividad is accepting applications for Staff Nurse I to fill current and future permanent and temporary vacancies as they arise. The Staff Nurse I is typically a New Graduate, a re-entry nurse, or a SNF nurse. Please allow one (1) week for processing of applications materials.
Examples of Duties
SIGNIFICANT DUTIES
Provides overall patient care appropriate to the nursing care plan
Manages the stable patients under the direct supervision of Charge/Supervising RN
Provides teaching and support with patient and Family
Notifies supervising RN and Health Care provider of negative change in patient status in a timely manner
Demonstrates understandings of the pharmacokinetics and safe administration of common medications used for the treatment of patients in their assigned area
Demonstrates the ability to safely administer routine Medications by PO, IM SQ and rectal routes
Provides care for families (adult, adolescent, newborns) with considerations for their developmental levels
Maintain a safe, comfortable and therapeutic environment for patients and families in accordance with hospital standards
Properly prepare, hang, monitor and discontinue IV fluids and blood/blood components
Acts as a patient advocate
Develops a written plan of care
Assists physician with patients
Monitors intake and output for patients
Completes accurate documentation of patient care
Provides ongoing assessment of the patient status changes
Communicates to the supervising RN the need to change a course of nursing actions based upon change in the patient's condition
Demonstrates ability to follow chain of command, as situation demands and delegates appropriately to the CNA or MUC
Evaluates patient response to pain interventions including pharmacological and non- pharmacological
Demonstrates proper use of equipment for unit assigned

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED License/Certificates: Possession of a valid CA RN License or a valid CA RN Interim Permit. (Please ensure to list your RN license# on the application)

Due to the considerable difference in patient profiles, work conditions and responsibilities, each of the clinical areas require a distinct mix of knowledge, skills and abilities. Applicants must possess a combination of education, training and/or experience which demonstrate competency in the appropriate mixture of qualifications.

Thorough Knowledge of:
Current theory, principles, techniques and procedures used in professional nursing
Medical terminology, medical instruments and equipment
Routines typical to an acute-care hospital
The uses and effects of medicines and narcotics
Federal, State and local laws and regulations that govern the nursing
Current treatments, drugs and equipment associated with an area of specialization

Working Knowledge of:
Community resource available to provide patient care and follow-up
Computer applications related to nursing
Principles and practices of quality assurance
Safety policies and procedures related to nursing

Skill and Ability to:
Perform the full range of registered nursing duties and responsibilities
Plan and organize nursing plans for patients
Prepare and maintain records and reports
Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action
Provide excellent customer service and establish and maintain effective working relationships
Keep abreast of developments in area of nursing specialization
Additional Information
WORKING CONDITIONS

Must be willing to work all shifts and float to other hospital units when requested. during the course of work incumbents may come in contact with infectious organisms and other potentially hazardous substances.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS
Vision which can be corrected to a level sufficient to successfully read & interpret physicians; orders, administer medications & treatments, assess changes in patient status & interpret colors; manual dexterity to apply treatments, perform medical examinations and manipulate equipment; physical ability to lift, bend and move patients equipment; ability to respond rapidly to emergency critical situations; hearing which can be corrected to a level sufficient to successfully hear and interpret physiologic sounds, such as breath and bowel sounds.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Natividad requires that all incumbents pass a pre-employment physical/medical assessment.
Natividad will conduct a thorough background and reference check process which includes a Department of Justice fingerprint check.
Employees who drive on County business to carry out job related duties must possess a valid CA Driver License for the class vehicle driven.
Employees must have and show their original Social Security Card and a valid CA Driver License or CA State ID prior to the first day of work.

QUALIFICATIONS APPRAISAL/ASSESSMENT AND ELIGIBLE LIST: The best-qualified applicants will be invited to participate further in the process. Applicants successful in the screening/qualification process will be placed on an eligible list for possible final selection interview. This eligible list will be used to fill current and future vacancies. All licenses/interim permits will be verified via primary source so please ensure that name on license/interim permit or proof of interim permit application is indicated in application materials.

Under the County's flexible staffing policy, employees hired at the Staff Nurse I level may be promoted up to the Staff Nurse II level subject to their meeting requirements of the higher class and a recommendation from their appointing authority.
