The University of Phoenix Human Resources department is hiring a Director of Internal Communications. The Director, Internal Communications works with the CHRO, HR leadership team and other senior leaders across all functions to plan, design and execute a comprehensive and customized communication strategy rooted in our core values – Brave, Honest and Focused - that will enhance employee engagement. The individual drives the development of strategies and resources to significantly influence how the University communicates, engages employees, shapes our culture and enhances the employee experience. The Director works collaboratively, providing leadership and direction through effective listening to truly understand the issues and areas of focus, with University business partners to ensure the application of effective and consistent internal communication standards across the University. The individual defines and applies best-in-class communication practices and infrastructure to support the University’s goals. By utilizing a strong understanding of traditional and contemporary communication tools and resources, the Director individualizes, conceptualizes, develops and executes communications plans with various deliverables including leadership communications, talking points, FAQs, web and internal social media content, and more.

Responsibilities
Manage and maintain all content on internal University intranet and internal social media platform; maintain distribution lists and create policies and procedures to manage communications; create an editorial calendar for internal communications, applying a knowledge of the overall University business and strategy in the development of timely content through a variety of communications vehicles
Develop an executive communication strategy for enterprise-wide communications from the executive team. Draft messages for individual executives in their voice; manage regular leadership broadcast calls
Work closely with organizational leaders to ensure internal communications are aligned, coordinated, and proactively driving the University culture, core values and University brand; build proactive and strategic communication plans incorporating the University's positioning, messages, and goals; monitor, track, and report on internal communication effectiveness and metrics including open rates, click-through rates and similar indicators of usage and engagement
Build, maintain and work collaboratively with a University of Phoenix communicators’ network to ensure alignment and oversight on department level internal communications; align internal communications as appropriate with Public Relations, Government Affairs and Marketing messaging, including keeping the University and our staff informed of information being disclosed publicly, or university-related stories in the media that merit internal mention or explanation
Maintain a proactive awareness of short-term and long-term University objectives and implement communication programs and processes to impactfully, proactively and in a meaningful way, drive understanding, engagement and enthusiasm in support of those objectives; look ahead proactively to the manner in which upcoming internal and external events will drive the need for a new or revised communication strategy
Write original content (including all forms of collateral assets: scripts, presentations, web content, social media posts, posters, flyers, e-communications, feature and special interest stories) to support the organizational culture and in a tone that is consistent with other messaging across the organization
Oversee communication component of all critical prioritized projects/initiatives that run through the Initiative Management Office

Qualifications

Basic Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in communication, journalism or English, or a related field
Five (5) years of experience in internal communications, with specific expertise in human resources communications

Additional Qualifications:
Superior written and verbal communication skills, including excellent writing, proofreading and editing abilities and command of grammar/punctuation, style and format; able to communicate messages in a warm, yet succinct style
Demonstrated track record of designing and leading coordinated communication programs strategies
Strategic, proactive thinking and critical analysis of key messages with emphasis on impact to business and culture
Able to translate business, initiative, and/or project priorities and efforts and make them relevant and interesting to employees
Thought leadership and the ability to design and deploy modern communication techniques to optimize employee engagement
Demonstrated proficiency in utilizing social media to build community
Collaborative work style with the ability to solicit input, influence and support decision making
Strong leadership and judgment skills; proven ability to influence without direct authority.
Polished, professional executive presence and the ability to converse and strategize with key leaders with comfort and confidence
Able to respond quickly and professionally to unforeseen crisis and issues
Results-oriented and able to organize and independently manage multiple projects simultaneously
